    Tray ceiling - timber choices

First bedroom up. Hopefully rest done this week then I can run wiring next week and get plasterers in to make a mess 🤣

Is caulk better than wood filler for the gaps between architrave and frame?

    Window trim

Thought I would just update as finally got around to boarding the windows in one of the rooms. Ended up using 9mm ply for the lining, 8mm decorative trim for the lip and 75mm architrave around the window. Overall it's fine, better than the plastic trim that's for sure. I think doing it again I...

I tried that before and don't know whether the person was having an off day or they toe a party line to protect themselves but aside from the generic guidance they already publish, I was repeatedly told to check with the paint manufacturer (bizarrely). Anyway, went to Dulux and they were fairly...

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

Massive thank you everyone. I mean honestly. I'm a member of a few forums (electricians/plumbers/tilers you name it) but the quality of responses and helpfulness here are a credit to you all. Taking everything on board, I am going to build the stud frame myself (with 50x50mm), run first fix...

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

Certainly sounds like i need to give further consideration to both. Just seeing so many high end/professionally built cinema rooms built with tray ceilings consisting of simple stud and MDF I made the assumption the movement must be so negligible to not cause cracks. For PB if I can just...

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

Suspected this was the case when the videos I saw all used MDF. Pricing is a win for plywood cabinet makers but alas not me in this instance, will stick to MDF. With regards to sealing, I'm guessing it's cheaper to seal standard MDF than pay the 25% extra for moisture resistant MDF but how does...

Sadly it is a case of you get what you pay for and I certainly can't get anywhere near the cost of the Fuji given I've only recently paid out 600 for the Wagner and second hand they fetch peanuts. My options are 1) find the settings combo that gets the 350R to do the job (ie paint viscosity...

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

I think I'm just reticent about metal stud work as I have zero experience with it and I've priced up the studs in CLS/carcassing timber and its less than 200 pounds. With regards to MDF/ply to panel the stud frame, my intention was to butt the joints as close as possible and use wood...

Essentially Wagner recommend starting the pressure gauge on the 2 setting and increasing until the spray is no longer stripey. They also recommend 5-10% dilution. I found for both water and oil based, that even with 10% dilution it was needing pressure set to 5 for a uniform pattern. Knowing now...

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

You're absolutely right, not sure what I was looking at before but just checked and the equivalent sheet from my local yard is 18kg ie all the same ballpark. Now what I don't understand is that they are now pricing the same 9mm sheet as 24.75 (ex vat) in ply but 26.95 (ex vat) in MDF. Given I...

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

MR MDF might be way forward, 19.9kg Vs 16.6kg for 2.44x1.22x9mm sheet i.e. not a significant load addition

Thanks for this, will go the 9mm route. I've not checked weight differentials yet but will also look into moisture resistant MDF. Like for like ply seems to be 3x the weight which rules it out for this purpose

Has a "1-5" selector with max pressure listed as 110bar. I think likely a tip/thinning issue. The kit came with 2 tips (517 & 311). I believe the 311 was best for oil based paints but when I put through it clogged up instantly. I then diluted the paint 10-20% yet still clogged. So switched to...

Forgot to send finished product pics. Worktops and all fittings in. Bizarrely feels substantially brighter with dark units & light worktop than the previous light units & dark worktop.

Sorry everyone. For some reason I missed the notifications on this. Ended up getting the 75mm and enjoyed some quality time with my plane :) Thanks all

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

Hello I am looking to build tray ceilings in several rooms that will have an LED ring around the internal perimeter as well as house several downlights. I've not managed to find much online about the structure behind these but think I've got a fairly good idea now, attaching studs to existing...
