    Herringbone/parquet flooring

Seems to be one of those situations where the internet/suppliers are full of conflicting advice when it comes to installation so thought best check in here as it's my first time laying a floor. In a nutshell, I am looking to lay wood flooring over plywood and the options seem to be 1) solid...

    Overboarding a landing

Glad I didn't try to board it, definitely not level, self levelling concrete will be the solution

    Overboarding a landing

That is indeed a very good solution! Thank you

    Overboarding a landing

Yes but only because I've not explained it very well. Ideal scenario is for the landing to match the bedrooms i.e. engineered oak in herringbone pattern and same height. At c14mm thick and due to the pattern this kind of flooring will need a subfloor, i.e. couldn't put straight onto joists...

    Overboarding a landing

Ah I think lost in translation, I was only overboarding to lay hardwood flooring in a herringbone pattern. With carpet it negates the needed for overboarding as I'll just secure the existing boards in place. Original query was trying to find a solution for a hardwood laid floor on the landing...

    Overboarding a landing

Not exactly sure what you mean/now that will blend in with existing steps and in particular how their edges are treated. The stairs in question are actually only a mini stair case from a dog-leg landing off the main stair case

    Overboarding a landing

Was going well, another bedroom and dressing room boarded with ease. Have just cleared out the final bedroom and for fun the hearth here is not the same level as the floorboards (as is the case in the other rooms). Aside from cutting out around the hearth and leaving it on show, is there...

    Doorway issue - any alternative?

Thankfully it just leads to the WC so not much width required. From the insulated plasterboard I've got 747mm i.e. getting a 762mm door and adjusting seems the way forward. Also means don't need to find a deeper backset that also has a latch function. It's a very small part of a large house...

    Doorway issue - any alternative?

That's definitely an option and may be the one if the deeper backset ends up looking odd

    Doorway issue - any alternative?

That's exactly the idea that solves it! Thank you, seen a few that fit the bill, below for example

    Doorway issue - any alternative?

Helpful. At that stage the plan was to simply flip the door opening. It's not big deal but my preference would be not to now.

    Doorway issue - any alternative?

Long story short, I've bricked up an external doorway and lined the inside with insulated plasterboard. This protrudes 50mm from original external door and now I've created a problem for myself: when I replace the internal door, this 50mm blocks where a door handle will be. My options that are...

    Overboarding a landing

Not through design but have just worked out the bedrooms (9mm ply + 5mm underlay + 13mm hardwood = 27mm) and the landing (10mm underlay + 17mm carpet = 27mm) will be the same height, which is nice, but still an issue of a lip near the top stair. I guess my options are to make it short of the...

    Overboarding a landing

It's a mix of an aesthetic perspective (we don't really like carpet, prefer hard flooring + rugs) and accoustic (the landing they share also leads to the bathroom i.e. carpet will cushion sounds for any toilet runs during the night). Ideally would have hard flooring in the landing too but can't...

    Overboarding a landing

First bedroom boarded. Fixing the existing floorboards took a bit longer than expect, more had split than I thought. Boarding itself was relatively quick bar the detail around the fireplace

    Overboarding a landing

I think this is the most logical way forward. I will see how butchered the landing floorboards are, if they are generally ok but just need screwing in place then I'll do that. If more of an issue, will rip up the landing floorboards and lay double sheets of my 9mm ply to get it to 18mm. Thanks all

    Overboarding a landing

This is it. No obvious/easy answer to this issue. The options I see are: 1) as above, overboard and accept there will either be a large lip or that the top step will be larger than the others 2) forget overboarding the landing, reinforce existing floorboards with screws and just carpet and...

    Overboarding a landing

Possibly more... Will be 9mm ply, then 10mm underlay, then carpet thickness on top.

    Overboarding a landing

Will be over boarding 3x bedrooms with 9mm plywood as well as the landing they share which leads to the staircase. The bedrooms themselves will have engineered wood flooring laid on top of the plywood in a herringbone style. The landing however will be carpeted. What I can't quite get my head...

    Tray ceiling - timber choices

All finished, well from a structural perspective. I've run first fix wiring so just a case of cutting out the downlight holes and running the LED strips but will last the plaster dry for a few more weeks and get a mist coat on before any of that. That's the 3 main bedrooms done and has removed...
