Rail/stile router bits + panel size

Pulled the trigger on the Wealdon combi bit as will use my existing Freud straight cutter to take my 9mm panels down to 6mm to fit the groove in the rails and Stiles. No surprise but quality difference Vs Amazon/china set was instantly noticeable in the ease of cut and clean finish of the cut...

    Concealed hinge minefield

Comparing like for like (and including VAT) it looks like on price alone Interfit just edge it at GBP3.76 for the hinge and plate (vs 4.02 at Hart Wholesale and 4.74 at Trade-Hinges). They all seem to off free delivery at a certain spend point. I am thankful Trade-hinges had a hinge & plate...

    Concealed hinge minefield

Thanks all, well, good to know now which actual product to get. Hadn't heard of interfit before but just checked their website and their prices look very decent and at first glance on a par with trade-hinges. It's when you get to a page like the below that a complete newbie to the world of...

    Concealed hinge minefield

Getting dizzy with the amount of options. My research points me to Blum if budget allows or Hafele is also quite decent. I need inset as opposed to overlay hinges and I know for some wardrobe doors given their height I will need 4 hinges per door whereas the smaller ones 3 will suffice. I also...

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

Thank you Mike. The router lift is certainly helping and for now this is definitely just a user error/lack of experience issue whilst I get familiar with the micro adjustments on the router lift height etc. I need to have another look at the fence, it's that INCRA WonderFence which has basic...

hunt continues... Wealdon not getting stock in till June.

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

Whilst I continue researching for a high end rail/stile bit, I finally got around to building the router table and chucked in a cheapo set from Amazon, more to test out the new router table than anything. First impressions on using these bits is that required accuracy (of bit height above...

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

I've dropped an email to Wealdon as they have a new range of Pencil Round frame sets (for 9mm grooves) but currently listed as out of stock. Not a combination bit which is disappointing but potentially moot if I am having to change the bit anyway to reduce the panel edges from 9mm to 6.3mm etc...

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

I've actually made a handful of "test" doors last week after watching that video. It's a very good method (particularly for someone like me) but I'm now looking to learn how to properly profile the doors (vs the far easier approach of glueing/pinning some pre-made beading in to a shake frame...

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

Thanks Pete, not seen something like that before! I've got variable speed control on the router, do the router bits normally state recommended speed settings?

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

Took the next question out of my mouth!😂 Had been looking at these and they are cheaper than buying separate (I'm assuming as less material). Given the obvious benefits of the stacked variety, I couldn't understand why the singles would be picked? I've got a crosscut fence from my table saw I'm...

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

Thank you both. Think I'll have a craic reducing the panel edges to 6.3mm first and if I struggle there will go to a more basic setup

Rail/stile router bits + panel size

Hello I'm brand new to this part of woodworking and babe recently acquired a router table and will be making some wardrobe doors shortly. When it comes to rail/stile router bits they seem to all come with a 1/4” (6.35mm) groove for the panel. I will be using 9mm panels. Do they make these bits...

Think I figured out what the thing I broke off does... Stops these dust nuggets forming

What have I done wrong? Carcass not square

Although this will have a face frame and overlay drawer fronts that would let me get away with it, its this very early stage in my woodworking adventure I am very keen to form good habits and also learn how to fix mistakes (as I am sure there will be a few along the way). I am using 12mm back...

What have I done wrong? Carcass not square

You're not wrong! bizarrely literally just watched a youtube on this as I found a forum thread from 2019 discussing a similar issue.

What have I done wrong? Carcass not square

Mostly a day of learning/calibration today 1) one of the spirit levels was neither level nor plumb 2) quick square, plastic square and L square fine but rafter square not 90 degress (acquired new engineers square and clamping squares which were both fine).. oh and made my own L squares (with...

What have I done wrong? Carcass not square

I hear you but personal taste, I loathe "built in" units that are how you describe and the inside of your wardrobe is the cold external facing walls and a plastered wall finish. A carcass is the only way for it to actually be a built in wardrobe as opposed to a wardrobe facade as you describe
