Removing bark - where to stop?

Ha! I'm assuming it was "take the lot off" on the basis that, when I got into it, it came off easily!

Great answer, short and sweet! Thank you

Removing bark - where to stop?

Hi everyone. I've got hold of some nice cherry wood from a slab and am making a kitchen board. As I hope you can see from the attached, I've taken off the bark and will work on on the live edge. My question is 'have I removed ALL the bark, or does the darker colour at the edge need to come off...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Doesn't come close to some of the wonderful stuff on here (make my own guitar? Wow! I'll stick to my Takamine though....) but I enjoyed making this. The shaping can be anything you want it to be and, happily, doesn't require accuracy. And the driftwood came from our local beach.....

    Semi-permanent workbench project....

Thank you. Yes, it looks pretty good. When I picked it up, the lady at Toolstation was telling me that they can't get enough of them. So far, so good: - Decent size working area. I have a B&D Workmate (a vintage one!) as well, so using the two means I can, for example, attach a mitre saw to...

    Semi-permanent workbench project....

Thank you all so much for your ideas and comments. They were all genuinely thought about. In the end, I've decided to concede some space and have bought one of these: Keter Folding Work Bench. I can happily use this for the small projects I tend to do and the portability/ ease of storage is...

    Semi-permanent workbench project....

I can't put a permanent bench in. It has to be something that I can dismantle when we need the space.

    Semi-permanent workbench project....

Ha! Sounds a great idea. But you mentioned the wrath..... And after 40 years of marriage, I'm wise enough to know how far I can stretch this! Sadly, it's not going to be against a wall but needs to be free standing.....

    Semi-permanent workbench project....

Hello everyone. We have a converted garage (with bathroom) that is used when we have all of our family visit and is used as a bedroom - in the space (other than the bathroom) there is a sofa bed. The room isn't used for anything else, so has become somewhere to dump stuff and I'm keen to make...

Thank you, that's good advice. Appreciate it

    Live edge choppping board

Hello everyone. So, after taking all your advice, I now have a live edge slab of lovely cherry wood to make the board with. It's been kiln dried and has the bark attached. The lumber yard assures me the bark will remain attached and I just wanted your views on that and what I might do to ensure...

    Live edge choppping board

Yes, that's correct. It cost me the princely sum of £2.50! My plan is to leave it in a warm(ish) room for the next 3 or 4 weeks and see how it is, and then decide if I want to cut it as outlined in the original post or leave it as it is. TBH, as you can see from the attached photo, there isn't...

    Router advice please....

Ok thanks. Umm, when you say "thumbscrews are missing", is that something easily solved? I know, it sounds picky.... Have a good day in the lakes, hope the weather is kind!

    Router advice please....

Wow, Ian that;'s very kind of you! I am bogged down with a couple of medical appointments on the 8th, but could be around after 3.30?

    Live edge choppping board

Hello everyone. My niece jas asked me if I will make her a chopping board for her new house. The kitchen is quite big. I've previously been asking for "router advice" as my original plan was to make a board, chamfer the edges and rout a groove into the top. But, because I've been unable to...

    Router advice please....

Ok....this has now advanced beyond a router question! That's because I've spent the morning looking for a suitable hardwood but not been able to source anything suggested other than.......a piece of sycamore that a local limber yard has kindly chopped straight off a trunk for me. So, my...

    Router advice please....

Folks, please can I ask one more question? I thought I could use oak for the board, but various YouTube videos suggest this isn't the right option as it is quite porous. What wood should I look for??

    Router advice please....

Thank you everyone, some really good advice there. So, I think I've decided to buy the Bosch router (the green one as I can't really see if need anything more "trade ready" for the modest tuff I do) and then get some inexpensive router bits to play with/ practice with (and then more expensive...
