    Extractor auto-switching...

This is effectively what I have done with the setup shown here http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx34 ... ctrics.jpg This uses a Scheppach auto switch into which I connected an extra cable which runs to the commando socket outlets, such that 4 machines each will auto switch the extractor. You...

    Vacuum extractor on P/T

In the case of the mitre saw, it tends to suck the flexible pipe up because, as you say, the extraction port is more restricted (although the connection is 100mm) - the two motors together have alot of suck. In the case of the bandsaw, I find that one is enough and usually switch the other off...

    Vacuum extractor on P/T

I run all of my machines with a Record DX4000 - it works well for me. My p/t is a Scheppach 3200 so the same width as your Jet and it seems to handle the chippings fine - there is some minor spillage onto the thicknessing bed, but I have always thought that is a limitation of the planer...

    TV advice requested

I would endorse the comment that John Lewis is the place to look - they do generally know their stuff and they carry a good wide range, and then shop around online. As to LCD v Plasma, there does not seem to be a universal answer to this as there is a great deal of subjectivity involved and the...

Outside enclosure for DX5000 (now vented outside with pics)

Not directly helpful to your plan Matt, but this is the enclosure idea I saw in Fine Woodworking http://www.finewoodworking.com/subscrip ... x?id=29924 It will need scaling up a bit for a DX4000 and even more for a DX5000, but it might be helpful. Cheers

Outside enclosure for DX5000 (now vented outside with pics)

Hello I have a DX4000 which is the same I think, except it sits on top of a drum, rather than being wall mounted with the (larger) bag collection as with the DX5000. I would say it is quite noisy (think two 1000w vacuums going at the same time) and it would definitely be beneficial to achieve...

    Mobile machine bases

I have a very similar base on my spindle moulder (ie with two fixed wheels at the rear and swivelling ones at the front). It works fine and gives surprisingly good manoevrability in a tight space and good stability when positioned to run the machine. I got mine from NMA to go with the...

    Glue Bottles

John I should have said, the roller in the Axminster set works very well - easy to gauge the right amount of glue. cheers

    Glue Bottles

Whilst on the subject of glue ups, I find disposable glue brushes invaluable. Axminster now sell these http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... =1&jump=44 but I bought a large number of similar wooden shafted ones years ago. I do not think I have actually thrown one away yet as I always...

    Glue Bottles

I got one of these sets http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... 370388.htm I keep pva in one of the bottles and have used various of the nozzles for different jobs. The whole thing is surprisingly satisfactory and I find it very useful (for example the basic nozzle on the bottle is very fine...

    Spray Booth

Jed I have recently made a knock down spray booth. I plan to post some details when I next get it out to spray the units I have shown in this thread https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/pain ... 39492.html. In my case, the considerations were: knockable down to flat pack, transportable...

    Panel cutting service costs

Hello all Big Mac asked me here https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/pain ... 39492.html what the cost was for the panel cutting service I had mentioned from Severnply. Sorry it has taken me a while, but I have not been at home to dig out this info. I guess the cutting charge must depend on...

    any advice for mortice joints?

I am self-taught on my spindle moulder - I approached it with a good deal of respect. I found this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spindle-Moulder ... 0854420312 and this dvd http://www.thegmcgroup.com/item--Basic- ... DLE-0.html pretty helpful (although in the case of the dvd presenter, I did...

    Painting MDF bedroom units

Hi Eion Your eagle eye spotted a sander attachment for a drill. It is an old Wolfcraft item that I find very useful attached to my 18v de walt drill (using a pipe clip that is just the right size to keep the power switch on). I have had it for many years and have upgraded at home to a proper...

    SPAX-M screws

I have used these recently - I did drill a fine pilot hole to be on the safe side; I don't think this was really necessary, but it probably helps with locating the screw. The thread is quite fine so you do not want to be too aggressive screwing it over tight or it can rip out when fixing in the...
