20% off over £20 on ebay if using Paypal until midnight 15/6

Thanks for that (I think). Worked fine for me. You just saved me £50, or cost me £249, depending on how I choose to look at it... :-) Cheers PS you need to be careful not to commit to buy before getting to enter the discount code - I didn't see how to do this using the app, so I went onto...

Help with machining table saw flange

Hi Seaco I have had another look - the spigot at the motor end is machined to 30mm, so hopefully that will give a suitable hold for the chuck(?). Here is a photo - shows that there was not much extra fat on the base casting before machining - I'll pick the best one when I get the spare. I...

Help with machining table saw flange

Hi Seaco That is a very kind offer. I will take a look at the other end when I change the blade over shortly - I think that end is machined parallel to the spindle, but now I'm not sure. Cheers

Help with machining table saw flange

Bang on Seaco - as ever a picture says a thousand words! The central spigot/ring is already the dimensions you show and so do not need modification - it is just the face of the outer ring that needs 6mm skimming off. Cheers

Help with machining table saw flange

Hello I am hoping someone may be able to help or advise. I want to modify a (spare) flange for the spindle on my table saw. A couple of pictures are shown below. I want to trim off approx 6mm from the face of the outer ring to accommodate a small adjustable groover set that will fit on the...

    metal strips for Anti Racking?

BB Have you looked at Ikea? For their utility shelving they sell cross braces that are wire - they work v effectively. Look at Ivar which seems to be the current range incarnation. Here is the brace http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/87749600/ £2 to you! cheers PS looking again...

changing blades on my scheppach p/t

The steel gauge Scheppach supply is hopeless - chuck it in the sundry ironmongery box. What worked for me: - find some time when you are not rushed - sit on a stool next to the planer, cup of tea nearby - take out the old blades, clean the wedges and slots and replace the new/sharpened...

What's wrong with my planer/thicknesser?? Blown capacitor?

Hi I am no electrical expert, but it sounds to me like the machine is on the margins of needing a 16A supply - it has worked on a 13A plug, but perhaps the capacitor is deteriorating which means it is drawing more current to get going. My planer had a faulty capacitor and would cut out before...

Kitchen extension Mega build. Photo heavy!

That is very impressive and an inspiration for my to do list! I feel for you carrying those Megger boards - at 3050 x 2070 or something they are seriously heavy. I have used the cutting service from Severn Ply (Timbmet) a few times. I think it is well worth the small extra charge (I am just...

New driver and impact - Bosch, Milwaukee, Fein or Panasonic?

I have recently replaced my old style (stick battery) 18v dewalt tools with a full set of the new Li-ion 18v range. The old ones served me well for years and I sold them readily. The new ones are very nice. They include brushless impact driver and drill http://www.dewalt.co.uk/brushless/ I...

    parquet / block flooring

I don't have personal experience of this, but a former colleague did a large part of his home renovation with reclaimed parquet. I recall that he found it best to chip off the bitumen when it was cold - I don't think I am imagining this, but I recall that he stored them in batches in the...

How to measure a recessed space accurately

The above are good tips - I really like the Veritas bar gauge myself (except it has a habit of being too long or too short!). When I am measuring a recess for say a shelf or countertop, I make up a template with 4 strips of plywood and some corner or bracing pieces which I fix together one...

    Compatibility issues using precat primer

I have had F&B colour matched paint from Morrells - I would say the colour matching is as good as you could expect, but the finished product does not look the same - there is a lot of science and some black art involved in paint finishes as far as I can tell (I am no expert, but there was a good...

Changing motor on an Axminster Dust extractor

I would save yourself the effort and look out for a used extractor that meets what you need. I used to use a Record Power DX4000 (2x 1kw motors - LVHP) for all my machines and it coped with these fine, even the 320mm planer/thicknesser. The downside was it made a screaming racket and so I...

    Uneven thicknessing

As has been said, you really want to avoid messing with the table rise/fall chain set up - obviously adjustment can be achieved by moving one or more sprockets around, but you might end up making it worse. Unless the chain has come off before, it should have been set up reasonably accurately at...

    Duff bearing on router ?

It's a pretty easy job to replace the bearings. I did so on my Elu MOF96e before I sold it as the bearings had started to make a bit of a screech sometimes. You can buy generic bearings to match, but I think I just ordered the correct parts through MTMC as it was only about £12 I recall...

    Drain lining

We had a long section of 6" sewer pipe lined a few years ago - about 250m. There were numerous blockages due to tree roots which had penetrated the joints in the clay pipes. The pipes were structurally intact although inevitably there were some cracks. I was totally impressed with the system...

    Loft insulation advice

DW I have had similar issues and have looked at many solutions - I rejected all of the foil products, not because they don't work (in fact I think it would not harm as an additional element in the way you have suggested installing it), but because they can interfere with aerial reception and I...

Why use farrow and ball paint

To be fair to F&B, they are quite explicit in their instructions that F&B Estate Eggshell must be applied to a base of the requisite F&B primer - I have no idea why this makes such a difference as I am not a chemist, but evidently it does. Having read a lot of the complaints, as far as I can...
