    Victorian Glass House Brackets

That looks very nice - I would be interested in seeing some more details of your construction, not only but including your roof glazing detail (are you using glazing bars?) I have a long outstanding project to rebuild a Victorian greenhouse - I thought I had found just the right cast iron...

Router lift and dedicated motor unit

I have the Xact router motor mounted on an older style Jessel router plate - I had to make a frame to attach the Xact motor because the Jessel plate was designed for fixing to the baseplate of a plunge router. Anyway, the Xact router motor is very good in my view - loads of power and seems...

anyone used a Gas powered hot melt glue gun?

I have one of these, or at least I did until yesterday when I sent it back for repair. Actually, this is on balance a positive report. I have had the glue gun for about 5 years - it is only used on and off and it failed just last week when it developed an internal leak of glue and then failed...

Airless vs Air Assisted vs HVLP spraypainting

I am a hobbyist/enthusiast, not a pro, but I like to have the right gear for the job. I have got into spraying as vastly preferable to hand painting or paint rolling. I have a Fuji Q4 HVLP set up that I have used a lot. I have various accessories for it - the ones I use most are the 3M PPS...

    Inca bandsaw

Incidentally, Inca Machines, the company that I linked to earlier, http://incamachines.com/english/ have been excellent in supplying some old and new parts and some very responsive advice on a few details. Cheers

    Inca bandsaw

I have the originals that are easily reground if necessary - I agree they are fine. I added the ceramic blocks as they are stated to stay cool and therefore not move and get worn away - in my case it is early days, but I was happy with the upgrade for a relatively small outlay. I have also...

    Inca bandsaw

Hi I have recently refurbished one of these lovely bandsaws. I fitted some of these ceramic guide blocks http://incamachines.com/english/inca-5- ... ndsaw.html and so far they seem absolutely fine - I am used to roller bearing type guides, but think it is unnecessary to reengineer the existing...

Accoya interior doors: making & finishing?

Eric I know you say that the doors are knackered from the stripping, but could they be rebuilt? I have done this alot - we had all our old pine doors stripped and of course they were loose all over the place. I took them apart, repaired bits, added strips to stiles that had been badly...

Accoya interior doors: making & finishing?

Hi Eric I have one experience of using Accoya, but it won't be my last. I used it to make two pairs of garage doors (in 1/3:2/3 style, so the 2/3 one is big), with Tricoya mdf for the panels. A few comments from my experience: - Accoya is nice to work - it is kind to the tools and...

Plug cutter to remove broken, rusted screw shanks?

Absolutely, this is my tried and tested way of removing rusted or broken nails and screws that I cannot get at with pincers etc. I have an old plug cutter that has done good service and that is the one I use for this job, thinking that nothing is lost if it hits some hard metal - in fact, I...

    Sash making video.

Thank you - I enjoyed that. A couple of interesting things for me, notably the method of cutting the tenons, that is chiselling the cheeks off, rather than rip-sawing. I guess you do need very good quality timber to begin with to get nice mouldings like that with hand tools. Cheers

    paint for spraying?

The water based paint I have had from Morrells is ready to spray - goes on very nicely too. Cheers

    Dremel

I have just bought a Bosch GRO 12v cordless “rotary multi-tool”, together with a cheap set of hundreds of bits and discs etc from Amazon. Now I have it, I find there are all sorts of things it is useful for - so far the most used bit is the diamond cut off disc. Definitely a keeper. Cheers

    What solvent

I relied on “her” nail varnish remover for a long time when I needed acetone, but then bought a 5l tin of Acetone BP (about £30 on eBay) and find it invaluable for all sorts of things - most importantly, it is essential for a deep clean of spraying kit when using water based paint. So my usual...

    Record Power Wheel Kits

I have just a assemble done of these stands for my new (v old) Inca bandsaw. It is well made in my opinion and fits together fine - the key thing is to get the top all lined up and bolted tight before tightening all the other bolts. It does not come with a top as it is made for the base of the...

    Upgrading kitchen extractor hood

+ 1 for keeping the outlet to 150mm if at all possible + 1 for doing a complete dismantling and rebuild I have just rebuilt a built in Neff cooker hood - different design to yours, but the principles will be the same. I had to do this because the transformer for the lights had failed and...

    Accoya wood

A day of machining Accoya gives the whole workshop a soft salt and vinegar crisps aroma - not at all unpleasant! I think the timber is pretty dry so I guess that is why it can seem dusty - it is also apparently a bit brittle (no doubt for the same reason) but I have not had problems with this...
