Spray Booth Safety Consideration (Extraction & Explosivity)

Just with regards to the airflow capacity, I have no doubt that fan would provide sufficient for your design, and probably well over sufficient. You would need a speed controller (which helps to dial down the noise to the minimum necessary to achieve the desired airflow); as you have already...

    Floating shelf question

I agree not for alcove shelves. Hafele sell a range of them - I have used these for various load-bearing shelves and they are really very good - strong and easy to adjust the level etc...

    Floating shelf question

I have done basically what you describe, on some smaller shelves in my case, but it is a sound technique. in this case, my shelves were made from a glued sandwich of birch ply top and bottom faces and a framework core of battens, with some front lipping, all painted. This gives a really strong...

What's accoya like to work with ?

After a session of machining Accoya, the workshop has a nice aroma of salt ’n vinegar crisps. It’s nice to work with, I find. I don’t think this will be an issue for the OP’s project in hand, but you do need to be careful sanding Accoya as it develops ripples easily. Cheers

    MR MDF

yep - the same product code - 51% discount - OK you bought 20 (although the quote says 1) - I got about 28.5% buying 2 sheets. As a small buyer, I wouldn’t expect the same discount as a major account, of course. I guess a large part of the whole discount structure seems to rest on tradesmen...

    MR MDF

Jewson’s quoted price is £89.18!! https://www.jewson.co.uk/p/caberwood-mdf-pro-moisture-resistant-2440-x-1220-x-18mm-FMDF18MR What is going on?

    MR MDF

That is pretty amazing given their quoted price of £60.60! Moisture Resistant MDF Lite 2440mm x 1220mm x 18mm I bought just 2 sheets and thought I was OK at £43 each. Are we talking about the same thing here? The link describes MDF Lite(?), but my invoice describes Caberwood MR MDF Trade with...

    Scheppach dust extractor connection

More details here Dust collector HD15 scheppach - 230V 50Hz 1100W - Scheppach Spare Parts (They don’t seem to show the rigid filter as an option) cheers

    Scheppach dust extractor connection

The HD15 looks like a newer incarnation of my old ha3200 dust extractor - a truly brilliant machine. It comes with a 140mm hose and this fits the outlet on my big planer. My other machines have 100mm outlets and for this I got the Scheppach reducer designed for exactly this. My machine was a...

    Wireless radiator valves.

I don’t have practical experience of these wirelessly controlled TRV’s, but I have spent a great deal of time looking into them (Honeywell Evohome). Firstly, as to the need for such a setup, this will probably depend on your own building and how it is used - in our case we have an elongated...

    Spindle moulder cutter blocks

I bought the Roy Sutton DVD many years ago and found it very valuable. As a salutary reminder of all his safety guidance, count the number of complete fingers he has.. Cheers PS I got a power feed for the spindle moulder and that gets used for virtually everything I do with the machine - it...

Spray Booth Safety Consideration (Extraction & Explosivity)

I have no basis to knock the design and I am no expert on spray booth technology, but a couple of observations: - the cupboard idea looks neat, but be prepared for the cupboard doors to get coated with overspray, making it impractical. - the booth is really quite limited in size and only...

Spray Booth Safety Consideration (Extraction & Explosivity)

I don’t really follow your picture btw (as regards airflow, particularly). Anyway, as mentioned, my spray booth was designed on different, non-explosion-proof, principles, but for your info, here is the original write-up I did years ago...

Spray Booth Safety Consideration (Extraction & Explosivity)

I cannot comment on the explosion proof considerations - for this reason, I only spray water-based finishes in my spray-booth. (I did a write—up of my knock-down set-up years ago here). Just one point occurs to me from my own experience - you look like you are fitting the concertina pleated type...

New (thinner) riving knife for diamond blade

Thanks @ScottandSargeant It was indeed looking at your listing of the CMT blades that got me thinking. (This was following seeing a review of the Felder diamond blade offering that I understand is made by AKE). Regarding the riving knife, I have read further that the material recommended is...

New (thinner) riving knife for diamond blade

I am short of ideas on where to spend my money 🤥, so am looking at trying out a diamond table saw blade - these seem to have good reports (but are an expensive initial outlay). Anyway, the ones I am looking at have a 2.4 or 2.5mm kerf and recommend a 2.0mm riving knife. My existing riving knife...

    Increase loft space

With no actual interest in a loft conversion, I stumbled on a YouTube channel called Ecotrus or Build it with Rob that specialises in exactly this conversion using steel joists and rafters. it is strangely fascinating seeing the conversion process and the space gained. this would be worth you...

    Ungluing a drawer.

Incidentally, I used this hot air gun technique to take apart some bits, where I didn’t need to be too careful, but it is easy to scorch the wood, hence Tom Johnson’s use of a timer, I guess. Cheers
