Suggestions on approach for a mobile understairs cabinet

Are you removing the timber at the top where the two small square openings are? I understand the concerns about stress on the box/cabinet. I think 80kg to 90kg is quite a high estimate. That's the weight of a reasonably solid man (Around 14 stones) Unless you are storing reference books or...

    Security issues

Police did a look round our garden after someone tried to break in to the garage. Shutters for the all the windows recommended - don't let anyone see inside. I guess that goes for silly things like keyholes too. We also have some battery powered floodlights at the end of the garden (I still...

    Have you seen this?

Spotted these in Tyzack's in Shoreditch the other week. Did a double take as they were all in a display box together and the size didn't quite register straight away!

    A Tribute

I've got an image of you two turning up near closing time, covered in shavings and a bit of sawdust. The other regulars must have had a nickname for the pair of you! From hard times - what a fantastic friendship and memories. Shame you are so far away at the moment. I bet you wish you could be...

    Hex Bits

Hex shank bit - I've learned something there. Thanks - that link is just what I needed.

    Hex Bits

There seem to be so many in some of the sets. Like pozi drive but with three slots in stead of four, square ones, double prong ones - some asterisk shaped ones too (are these spline / torx??) I've got the hole in the middle ones too. Like allen keys with the centre drilled out. They have just...

    Hex Bits

This is probably a really stupid question! Is there a definitive list of hex bits that are available? Just been having a sort out and I've hex bits from broken screwdrivers, hex bits with multi tools. A lot of the same ones keep appearing again and again. I would like to make one set and a...

    Jims Garden Workshop

If he's got a view of the mountains - that'll be North London!! Seriously - good workshop. Panorama view takes a bit of getting used to, but looks like you have a good space down there. Martin

    Jewellery stand

What type of drill are you using to drill into the wood? Might be worth buying one or two wood bits - nice centre spike to locate and tend to give cleaner holes than the multipurpose twist drills.

Moving house - please critique my plan

Agree with starting the packing up earlier than planned. Agree with not trusting the Estate agents, Solicitors etc. I take it that you can't get removal hire and all that back if there is a problem on the day? Are you moving up North to be closer to friends / family? Is there no one up there...

How do you like those pockethole 'accents'?

Aren't American Accents quite harsh usually! This is just art following language. Just be grateful they are using pocket holes and not bullet holes!

Advice on a laser cutter for making rubber stamps needed!

What material will you be cutting into to match the actual stamp? Wood, leather, rubber, something else?

    Awkward clamping

Love it - is anyone else thinking that it looks like a big chip shop chip?

    A shocking tale...

You're talking the site down! The work looks great. Keep it going. You never even planned this and you have made a great start. I would agree about gradually replacing the photos with even better ones. The beautiful hummingbird set in front of a bin liner made me smile! One thought - new...

    Design & Technology in schools

It's marginalized at primary school too. New curriculum has set impossibly high demands - can't see them being achieved though. Such a push on reading, writing, grammar for writing, grammar in the writing, and maths to beat the Asian schools. Six years olds have to know their subordinating...

    Overwhelmed

When I was playing around with the layout in my shed, I made some folding trestles. Quick and easy job. Put them against a wall and fix to the wall for more stability - battens on the floor if you can to stop the legs going anywhere. Osb board top and a temporary bench. Turned out to be very...

    Overwhelmed

Don't give up. It will drive you mad - but ultimately that shed will keep you sane! Do you have any quick fix ways to make some instant space? Funky folding ladders that make platforms = instant shelf and some stuff off the floor. Then you have room to move. Really Useful Boxes are very strong...
