European Woodworking Show - Cressing Temple Barns, Essex

I went on the Sunday - really enjoyed the place. Cam away with lots of timber blanks and a new plane. Be gutted if it is the last one. Does anyone know why they are finishing. It seemed pretty full and on Saturday there was a request on their website to cooperate with the car park attendants...

European Woodworking Show - Cressing Temple Barns, Essex

Going on the Sunday Apparently there's a National Trust place a few miles away where you can dump your wife and kids - very thoughtful of them!

    pillar drill depth

It's a workaround of sorts, but... Couldn't you drill the 3mm holes with a standard length bit - drill them all Put a longer 3mm drill bit/ extension, adjust the table and then re-drill the holes. I know it's a faff - but one change and reset and off you go. +1 for the hand cranked drills...

How do we get kids to be engineers

I am a primary school teacher. I have been in charge of DT in various schools for over a decade. I recently did a staff inset after school. I asked how many teachers had had any DT training and only 1 or 2 put up their hands out of the entire teaching staff (from 1-30 years teaching...

    Upcycling

I can't stand the phrase. I've been looking for a reasonably priced treadle dentists drill. So many of them get turned into poncy lamps and sold for hundreds of pounds.

How do we get kids to be engineers

I think the answer to the original poster's question is to remove the current government. They have pushed the current ridiculous curriculum. Primary education needs to be opened up for starters and children need to be doing more DT so they can go to secondary school with some semblance of basic...

    Modifying a pillar drill

Not much help - but I've done the same with an old hand crank drill. It was just too low for the Forstner bits and the base+vice. It was a major faff to swing the top around and start drilling and then go back to the base. I found reasonably priced stuff on ebay. Got the right length in the...

Craft it yourself C4 8pm tonight

You might be onto something with the cooking and baking explosion. I always thought it was just post recession - now we have no more money to buy and transform houses = new tv crazing of cooking shows.

    Keith Haring...

Wow - wasn't sure where that was going when I saw the first photo. Scrolled down and all became clear. It's a really unusual and effective way of scroll sawing. What are you going to surprise us with next?
