    Lots of hot air

Tax carbon consumption - I like that idea a lot, (but then I'm a low purchase person) each item comes with it a "carbon rating / amount" whatever and just like tax you get an allowance, over that and you have to pay, so all those idiots onthier 3rd phone in 3 years, or designer shoes, or...

    Cunning idea needed

This = Maskol latex liquid mask, usually used on small finicky areas like the glass areas on canopies of model aircraft to paint the canopy metal struts etc. (fiddly as hell) You can leave it on for days if neccesary, though it will start to shrink at the edges - its a tad spendy in relative...

    Lots of hot air

Sorry Danst, but are you saying that this has been and will continue to be visited upon us by God? Why would God take the "slow death" approach when he has other far more efficient options at his disposal - and why would God decide that the way to solve this problem is to kill off the entire...

Bosch gmc 12 glide mitre saw problem

Second hand might be the culprit - did you fire it up before you handed over the cash? could be faulty from manufacturer and the previous owner didn't get around to sorting that out, and just passed it on to an unsuspecting person (I got done that way with an axminster ts200 that has...

    What a waste!

I know someone with an industrial machine who would easily be able to hem the material, but then there's the cost of shipping it to her from supplier, her time (it's her hobby so she's pretty cheap) then back to you in france, doubt it might work out any cheaper.

Help to make french doors - without twist!

Is is going to be painted or left natural? if painted you might want to consider plywood for the main structural elements and add egdetrim strips for the stile edges, the thickness can be built in layers - a 20mm and 2x 8mm (for balance) gets you 36mm which is only 1mm more than a standard door...

    More price increases

I can vouch for that living on a shared house with largely indian and asian residents, and don't get me started on walking into the kichen one day to find out what the stench was and saw one of our muslims dropping a cleaver into a boiled goats head, I was very nearly sick. Separate kitchen...

    No cost Moxon

my moxon, originally just made from reclaimed hardwood window cills, then the back section was added and the end vice to turn it into a raised bench; threaded rods and curtain poles filled with cement as rails to take the strain off the threaded rods. Under the flat section there are thick...

Planing to make my own table saw out of a circular one... what would make a good circular saw to use?

I take all your objections to making a table saw out of a circular saw and raise you one Mirock. If you think it's a bad idea, think again. His system is genius and solves a great many issues inherent with a table saw, I'll be very surprised if there isn't a commercial version of his system at...

I'm worried about what people will think after I die...

Well quite, I'm clearly not, but that just shows how people with this sort of mindset can really damage those around them. (and I will thank you for not mocking me about it, regardless of your personal feelings about me, my politics or viewpoints; whether you recall or not I was supportive when...

I'm worried about what people will think after I die...

My Father has to my misfortune been a slave to "what other people think" all his life, he would often tell me that "what you do reflects on me" as though everyone knows who he is (he's a nobody like you, me and everyone else), and despite being a not particularly nice person himself. In later...

    Furniture sprayer needed

A decent sprayer won't care - each has it's difficulties to watch for, all of which can be easily dealt with, with the right experience. Going by what Dr Bob does, it will probably be both water and oil and a mixture of real wood or MDF.

    Dw1150 planer

I also have one of these and Fitzroy has said it all except..... mine had a morticing addition that I took off, so I have the morticing bits and associated other pieces I will probably never use them, haven't so far after hmm 10(?) years of owning it, tad rusty, and I do mean just a tad, can be...

    Furniture sprayer needed

Spraying has been an on off hobby of mine for some time (big things like furniture and small thing like scale models) - even have my own DeVILLBISS gun (not cheap), just sprayed some internal doors for a client not 3 weeks ago - so impressed were they, they gave me an extra £100 ! But you are...

Going to spend the rest of my life de-nailing!

I prefer a slightly blunt de-nailer after finding my sharp one was cutting the nails rather than pulling them, I also advocate pulling them through the timber, pushing them back out via the point usually ends up blowing out the head side, if that isn't an issue then it is a bit easier. I was...

The Warrington Chest. Patternmakers Tool Chest and Tools 1888.

Wow - now..err seeing as I'm a mate of Andy T's and I live in Bristol..... any chance of a face to face meet with this treasure in the future? Covid situation not withstanding. Actually I can think of another woodworker who is a friend of Andy's also in Bristol that would definitely want to...

    A veneer hammer project.

for fixing that I would go with small brass panhead screws, screwed right through, when the panhead is flush, file the head off so it just looks like a pin, and probably file the tips if the screw is protruding the other side.

    A veneer hammer project.

I made a veneer hammer and used HDPE from a cheap cutting board. I know brass is traditionally used to help keep the glue soft from the heat, but nothing sticks to it.

    Can anybody beat this?

I'm fairly sure Eriktheviking - late of this forum would have photos of some of his or collegues work and cabling when he used to work for the BBC on outside broadcasts.
