Braze or solder broken cast iron plane sides?

I've been meaning to repair a cracked chipped off rear corner of a #5, by smoothing off the rough edge then adding some brass soldered on and then drill and tap some brass screws, then file off the head - all of which is a bit fiddle hence it still being on "round tuit" list - I'd be interested...

I've just had a rather - interesting idea. Have you considered makign the props out of resin, but tinted with aluminium or steel powder so they look silver? I'm, pretty sure it would be a fairly simple task to take one of the props for each model you make and use it to make a silicone mold -...

    E.E. Lightning F2

I also remember being at an air show in the 70's and having one fly directly over our heads (when that was allowed), I was about 6 and because it was the "announcement flypast" annoucing it's prescence at the show as it had obviously flown in from elsewhere, I wasn't ready for it and went "f'in'...

MAC Timbers destroyed by devastating fire.

OH NO! - that's horrible, Never been, but I remember all the hassle they had before, they must be devastated. I know storing timber is always a risk but even so it must be so awful to happen, were they present when it happened or middle of the night? Anything suspicious about it? Hope they...

    saw keep

I share a house with a builder, (almost) every new saw he gets with those plastic sleeves over the teeth go "missing" - designed for the job.

Mortar on creasing tiles won't stick

^^ This, oh and throw over either old towels (most people don't tend to have long sections of hessian lying around ;)) and keep them damp or those cheap thin polythene paint thingys that for the life of me I can't remember what they are called! - *blank*, utterly blank. edit: oh jonm said it...

    Fixing a poorly designed chair

Without disrepect to the OP, I think he doesn't have the skillset to even understand some of these instructions let alone DO them (fox wedge?), and yes you'd be amazed at how much of a difference losing an inch off the end would make to the feel and the experience.

A post about nothing much at all.

And (mostly) women wonder why men hoard stuff - because we've all got stories about ditching an item only to need it within a short time period; mine is my Aunt (I did say mostly women) keeping "spare" stair spindles for 10 years, then eventually badgered into ditching them, only to have some...

    What wood

My experience is that most non woodworker sellers of wood items tend to follow the rules of : if it's red it's mahogany, if it's yellow it's pine - and everything else is labeled "solid oak" .

A post about nothing much at all.

Proud skip diver - last encounter just a few days ago snagging most of a sheet of 12mm MDF and just what I was needing (after being let down by Ikeas wood pile), from a lady's skip with what can only be described as "purple rinse beehive" (her not the skip). I share a house with a builder with...

oh to be 1/2 that skilled.....

Seems odd, I've been using amazon prime for years and years without issue, and I know several other people all have done the same and no-ones ever mentioned being hit with extra charges - the real culprit might be a scam email you replied to; why would they have details of your barclaycard if...

    Fixing a poorly designed chair

Pretty much as I said, but I think he could get away with a longer screw of the same diameter to give more purchase on the leg, just hand tight and no more. If the epoxy is applied generously then it will fill the gap at the top, and when you add the screw dip the screw in some 3 in 1 oil or...

    Fixing a poorly designed chair

I think Epoxy is still the best way to go - though you'll probably be unable to remove leg from socket ever again. If that is a concern then smear some paste wax, vaseline, candle wax, 3in1 - whatever you have to hand inside the socket before adding epoxy, so the epoxy just fills the excess...
