Advice needed on how to make this knot look good please

This is a good alternative method to save soft knots and such - and personally CA works better than the wet rot wood hardener as the CA goes much harder. If you do have this issue again, there are some resins used for inclusion casting (the kind for paperweights etc) that go as clear as glass...

Exposed OSB cabinets - like or not?

My 2 large almost floor to ceiling bookshelf units are made of OSB, but I stained them with vandyke plus a touch of red so they are a very deep mahogany almost teak colour, shelf edges are rounded over with a quaterround bit. I did sort of smooth out the roughness with a few coats of varnish...

    Truing a framing square

Multiple punches and of a reasonable size along the inner or outer corner depending and along the "mitre" axis - here's a pic of mine done by me, it needed opening by about 3mm or so iirc. The framing square is also old, bought from Bristol Designs after cheaper new ones were just rubbish...

    Toy box/chest

HAHAHA that was a remarkably... precise, summation. Quatersawn for me - even though those defects will be close together, in the riftsawn version they still show it's a bookmatched board, unless there's excess enough to cut them off? I like a little defect though, just my preference.

    Toy box/chest

Great Wip as always, looking very very good so far and 40 dovetails, you're definitely getting the hang of those. Gesso is a mixture of whiting - a very fine white powder, chalk or gypsum and that rabbit skin glue, to a syrupy consitency - historically it was most often applied as a primer...

Plywood paint rack - UPDATE: finished!

Nice rack - fnar - but one question, can you reach the top shelves while sitting down? I've been contemplating something similar for quite some time for my modelling space, but I've never decided on drawers, slots for small pullout sealed containers or a rack like yours for all the paints and...

    Roofing felt repair?

I used ordinary white spirit and although it took some stirring in with a stick it, went on lovely. I guesstimated it was between 10-15% which seems like a lot, but this stuff really is like treacle normally, and tbh I think thinning it helps because it dries quicker, not lumpy which might...

New shed. Is it a good idea to creosote the OSB floor?

For not much more cost would it be possible to add some pressure treated battens to the underside - possibly even add DPS strips to that - for the added extra cost you'll add years to the life. Even if the shed walls are set on the concrete with no air gap (with DPC I hope!) you'll still get...

    ..........

I use quick clamps - the irwin sort of ones, for opening jars and such that have become stuck. I clamp the lid once tight, then loosen and move 90 deg and clamp again but keep it clamped and twist, works every time. The first clamp and release helps to break the bond and sort of push the lid...

    Sports Direct

Certainly dubious, especially the charge to collect in store - I'm sure they would cover that with "we have to pay to ship your item to your local store, but we give you a voucher" - to which you can easily reply, "but the voucher still means you have my money, and you move stock around to your...

    ?????

it would have to spin VERY slowly, or the illusion is lost, because it only works from the perspective the camera is at, any others and you see it for what it is, so you'd also have to mount it in a box of some kind to force that particular viewing angle.

I suggest you read a book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull".

    Roofing felt repair?

+1 for this stuff, but when I use it I thin it down a bit purely because otherwise it's like trying to roller treacle, and a 15% thinned version rollers on lovely, and flows right into any cracks etc. Yes to brushing off any major loose stuff, but if you thin it out so it's more like paint and...

    Edd China's Garage Revival Program

Even though I'm not a petrol head per se, I always liked the "Edd" parts of wheeler dealers - this pilot was good - proper "grass roots blokes in sheds / garages" stuff we can relate to. Wonder why his GT(I) is called a "rabbit" - badge looked legit.

    Louvred vents for boiler room?

The answer has already been given by Sunnybob, the reason for the wording is because the seller has no idea what type of boiler it is to be used with and thus the ones that match the requirements for an internal breathing boiler, are marked "suitable" and those that are not, are labelled as...

    Winter Hiatus & New Projects

I agree, I think Andy is spot on with that assessment. Take the bark and pith off, split them, and fit, leave them as they come. Maybe lightly plane the split sides just to get the worst of the roughness off to help rain shed, otherwise leave them as rustic as you can get away with. They look...

    oh dear

If he priced it according to the french polishing work, well what she does with it after that is her choice I guess. A couple of time's I have been guilty of asking a customer the same question though "you're not going to cover it in paint are you?" when asked to "clean up" an item they have...

    oh dear

I can't see what the problem is - £50 for one of those is pretty good, It looks like sold cast iron parts, and base, good solid spring and the main shaft is solid cast iron too. Should be very sturdy. oh, you mean the lamp? yeah. take all that ***** off.
