    I Bought a Track Saw...

Are you saying they are actually moving the little finger across? Not leaving the gap? I don't wear rings very often, but I do have several bracelets that I almost never take off as they are a PITA to get back on one handed - think maybe I'll be getting better at doing that from now on...

    Planter..WIP

I've avoided that thread as it says "gory" and I don't do gory, are the pics hidden under "spoiler" (if you can do that on this new forum format). Really sorry hear that happened though. That plate on the belt sander isn't for when you use it upside down - it's a "reference plate" that you...

RECOMMEND ME A SHOT BLASTING CABINET

You could always contact the manufacture and see at what pressure the PRV is set to, and can it be disabled? They might have tech testing info if they did a failure point pressure test - could be worth asking. It does look reasonably sturdy, but how much thread depth you have for connecting...

Brown MDF and the sun.... a head's up (NOT GREEN MRMDF)

Just as an update - I brought the MDF sheet indoors after seeing it warp and this morning it had all flattened out as it was even though it was leaned up against a wall... weird.

RECOMMEND ME A SHOT BLASTING CABINET

I've used glass bead and it is effective, not too harsh, and not so prone to clumping either as sand (no idea why). Downside is you'll only get 2 or 3 uses out of it before it becomes ineffective, but it is very cheap: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/261101791032?c ... tYEALw_wcB As an aside, once...

    Hinges, hardening the pin?

Thanks for all the replies - replacing the pin seems a better idea, but the "peeling open" part does have me a little concerned. Sunnybob the castors are rated for 160kg EACH, so even though it's pretty beefy I can still pick it up by the ends, but ty for checking. If it's not high carbon...

    Hinges, hardening the pin?

I've got some strap hinges and the pins seem a little malleable. I've not put the weight on them to check (there are 4 total), but if it turns out they bend under the weight as they are being used horizontally to support the wheels on a heavy workbench, is straightening them and hardening them...

My Portable Wide Slab Flattening Jig

I've seen the string trick before, and iirc moving the wrong one will also raise the string at the corner enough to notice, so as long as you are vigilant at the corners, you should be OK. Obviously you have to make sure it's pretty tight so there's no possibility of any sag.

re Highway code (UK) allowing drivers out from side roads

Having only passed my driving test a couple if years ago I'm pretty sure the answer is this - failing to check that the car behind has sufficient space to ensure braking is safe, when said braking is not required for safety or an emergency. I think the highway code states you should ALWAYS...

    New silicone tubes

This or my trick is when you cut the tip off to make it larger, keep the cut end, invert it and shove it back in the nozzle, the excess comes through the hole and forms a plug, which also makes it easier to pull out the bit that goes hard in the nozzle - seems pretty reliable for me when I'm...

Brown MDF and the sun.... a head's up (NOT GREEN MRMDF)

I've just learned today that a 1m square sheet of MDF, if leaned against a fence in direct sunlight (at only a moderate angle), will develop a curve, in both axis of about a 25mm offset at the centre. In about 20 minutes. Dunno if this is common knowledge, but I certainly didn't know. (the...

made my first Roubo style Pencil Gauge (mahogany)

So the dowel is a cam? Nice. Very clean crisp lines and edges. If I'm understanding the cam action is backwards, you could always claim this is a "leftie" version and make another as a "rightie". I've got 2 marking gauges by made Pete Maddex that were made as an opposite pair. (and signed...

    Workbench top help please

Thanks for the replies, I was beginning to wonder.... Yes it'll be my only bench, no space for another. It is pretty stable (uneven floor not withstanding), the legs are almost 80mm square, and the rails are all made from the stiles of reclaimed 4 panel doors, so pretty thick. iirc the...

    Adirondack chair plans

I really like the art deco style of the the yellow one, but isn't the front edge a little harsh on the backs of the legs?

    Workbench top help please

I'm in the middle of re-doing my workbench come assembly table (frame is complete), now that I know more about what I want, but I'm still stuck as to what to do with the main top (it's a split level bench to accomodate my small tablesaw) with flip up router table at the other end. Options are...

    Penultimate workbench

I've been wrestling on whether to put a tail vice on my current new bench build - if the tail vice is used with a stop such that the majority of the board is supported - is that good enough to stop flex? I've tried planing against a stop on it's own with nothing to hold it in place but it's...

    Is this joint strong enough?

I guess that all depends on just exactly HOW stong you want them to be. Screwing into endgrain is still pretty good if the material is plywood of decent quality with few voids etc. If you are sure it's going to be a permanent bench that you won't wish to dismantle** then sure glued dowels will...

Help please - I am being an ***** with door hanging.

Another possibility noted to add to the list of why a door becomes hinge-bound, I fit doors on occasions and have made the fitting mistakes Mcdemon listed.

Over cladding a barn. Viable or stupid idea?

There's Sho Sugi Ban - used for centuries in Japan, whom I beleive have a wider range of weather than the UK, historically cedar, but not always where Cedar isn't as common, I'm sure Oak could also be treated the same way. It's becoming more common in the UK these last 5 years or so, so there's...
