    MFT tops

I see no reason why an order sheet could not be produced where you could add more rows, columns or or ask for a non standard "standard" arrangement. other holes could be entered as coordinates into the order form. You could also ask for different sized and shapped holes. Then the cnc machine...

So, isn't it about time the rights of a consumer were upgraded in law?

The specification for flour has a maximum % of things with a leg quotient >6. I worked with some people once whose previous job was in Libya. The meat there had a leg quotient <1. They washed the meat in fairy liquid to get them to come out. I think I would have starved.

    MFT tops

I am newish to wood working, I have built a shed and extended the space under the stairs and put a door on it. I have purchased a ready made MFT top. £55 after deliver is obviously a lot less than £200 for the parf system plus the material. I would have to make five standard size tops before...

    Ban on airtravel

I could see taxes being introduced to reduce the amount of flights but I can't see how it could be banned by the UK government. People just drive their electric car to France and cat a plane there if they want to go long haul. It would be better to tax flights and give everybody an allowance...

So, isn't it about time the rights of a consumer were upgraded in law?

If you want people to make judgements you have to give them a means of evaluating the options. There are no measures that combine all the different impacts and what is published often measures things in different ways so things can not be compared on the back of an envelope. People currently...

So, isn't it about time the rights of a consumer were upgraded in law?

You could add in something for the environmental capital cost of the different machines. I would assume that generally the amount of steel, plastics etc would be similar no matter what the cost of the machine, maybe a little bit more for a bigger capacity machine. You could take that the...

So, isn't it about time the rights of a consumer were upgraded in law?

I am an engineer not an accountant who would come up with some formula taking account of inflation etc but it is what I used when I last bought a washing machine and TV. You can alter the "pay" to how much of a pain to you it would be if it broke down.

So, isn't it about time the rights of a consumer were upgraded in law?

To compare prices of products like washing machines I look up how often they break on websites such as Which. Then for an item that will break down 20% in five years I add 20% to the cost. I also add 20% of a days "pay" to pay for looking for a replacement, waiting around for repairs to be done...

Getting paid to work on your own home

It is weekly or monthly not calculated over the year. You need to earn enough for the week or nonth for that period to be counted. If not you have to buy additional weeks to make up the year,

Garden Room - Steel Beam Help Please!!

I would be mostly worried about the wind as others have noted. When it is windy and a door is open (or the glass breaks) there will be quite a large upwards load. Bolting to a 20 to 30 kg concrete block will not weigh enough to hold the steel post down. You need a structural concrete pad. I...

    Disposal of wood chippings

I agree they will use magnets, magnetic induction to remove the aluminum, air for the light stuff etc. Someone will pull out the cycle wheels and remove the tyres but they may miss some stuff. Missed bits of glass in chipboard is a bigger problem than glass, rubber etc getting melted down or...

    Hello from Devon

Its a nicer walk up the footpath beside the Morrisons. Starts from the main road just east of entrance to the little industrial estate. you can also get onto the path from the Morissons carpark. But at the top just before the gate onto the road there has been a puddle when I have been there.

    Hello from Devon

Furthest west i have walked recently, 2019, is southern Dartmoor. There are some nice views from there of a large part of the south coast of Cornwall.

    Disposal of wood chippings

It is a case of different uses for the material. Old wood can be used to make chipboard. I think it helps because it generally has a lower moisture content than new wood. But the factory may not be able to sort out glass, putty etc other than by eye. Some wood and glass would not be a problem...

    Possible solutions for workbench design

There is a Silverline block and tackle plus strop on amazon for sale at £12.59. Can lift 180kg so could easily deal with 40kg. Mechanical advantage of 6 so the 40 kg will feel like 6kg and pulling down on a rope is easier than pushing a ladder up. I have never used this product so do not know...

Getting paid to work on your own home

Assuming you can not get paid by your wife to take you above the lower earnings limit to get pesion contibutions you can make voluntary payments. I think it is currently about £18 per week and you have to pay for all the weeks in the year that you do not earn enough, around about £127 per week...

    Scheppach 6.5HP Petrol Compactor

If you are having the skip in the road make sure you can fill it up quick or get a lockable one. Even if the drive is just a car parking spot you could well want to reverse something heavier in there. I wish I had a parking spot but only have the road.:)

    Scheppach 6.5HP Petrol Compactor

It is a bit on the light side for a driveway but good for the landscaping. The specification for highways gives a minimum weight twice as much as that plate compactor; compacting stone in 75mm layers with 6 passes. Whilst your drive will get nowhere near the traffic of a road where a heavier...

    Hello from Devon

I have walked around the coast path as far as Seaton in Devon. Did not know there was one near Saltash as well.

    Hello from Devon

I used to go in the kings Arms or when the sun was out the back beach, New Quay or Ship. But I have been spending more time in the spoons recently.
