Which resin anchor should I use (old crumbly brick)

Those sleeves are for hollow bricks and blocks. Where your drill hole passes through the voids inside the wall the sleeve stops the resin escaping into the void so there will be resin available to connect to the brick/ block between the voids. The fixing manufacturer technical literature will...

    The cheek on some people!

Not everyone has access to a vehicle to take stuff to the tip. But that is not an excuse for dumping stuff in the street. You can get rid of a lot of stuff great escape style in your residual waste bin. If you can not give away a settee you can smash it up and feed it into your bin a bit at a...

    The cheek on some people!

I would not mind if someone put the odd cup in my residual waste bin but would be annoyed if they put non recyclable in my recycling bin. It is better that it goes in the bin than on the street.

Building a workshop in an old stone built barn

The main sources of water are, off the roof because there are no gutters, surface water and water running through the ground. In the second picture the track appears to slope towards the camera. I would dig a shallow trench about 1m off the track, towards the barn, maybe 150 deep by 300 wide...

Plunge saw buying recommendations £150-250 budget

I would imagine that it would be quite difficult to evaluate a Festool TS55 and Mac Allister etc saw. You would have to find people who do not know either name or they would assume that the more expensive saw is the better saw. Its called the placebo effect in medicine.

Composite Decking / Laser Level / Lighting

Professional lasers for leveling are used with detectors. It is easier to set up a machine if you do not have to crouch down to set grades and adjust it up and down to a required level. Once you have the laser level set up at a random convenient height you measure the height of the beam up (or...

Composite Decking / Laser Level / Lighting

The trouble with camera tripods is that they are light. For a camera that is not such a problem as you are normally stood behind the camera so can grab it if there is a gust of wind. I have only set up lasers on heavy wooden tripods, a lot less chance of blowing over in the wind. They are also...

Hacks to help cope with the heat

The rise in temperature and especially the frequency of high temperatures is likely to move faster than the poles.

Plunge saw buying recommendations £150-250 budget

I have seen blends that fit in B&Q and as lambcrafter noted trend do blades. The blade is slightly bigger than those used by most saws. I would imagine that trend etc will keep supplying blades as long as the saws are still being sold.

So is beer. And that is not good if you are dehydrated.

Plunge saw buying recommendations £150-250 budget

I purchased an Erbauer track/plunge saw a couple of months ago. I am using it with the supplied blade but it seems to give a reasonable cut for my new bench. When I start making shelves for indoors I will buy a better blade. When the Erbauer dies I will have an understanding of track saw use...

Hacks to help cope with the heat

Our rain is up in the sky. The heat will increase evaporation from the sea around us. When it cools down the clouds will form and we will have some thunderstorms.

Composite Decking / Laser Level / Lighting

Lasers work perfectly good outside. In construction we normally use them with a detector then there is no problem with bright sunlight. Otherwise you will have to use it at dawn or dusk.

What is this drainage pipe called?

When it was made back in the 60s ? it would have been rigid. Yes you should replace everything up to the down pipe. You do not want to try to make a connection to it since it may contain asbestos. Coat it in pva then remove it causing as little disturbance as possible. double bag it and take...

What is this drainage pipe called?

Why do you want to replace it like for like. I would just buy the same size as the down pipe less hassle and cheaper. Just a guess but it may be pitch fiber. I have never seen it in real life just read about in college back in the late 70s. I would avoid cutting or crushing it just carefully...

Building a workshop in an old stone built barn

I would not be surprised if the rock continues under the track to the barn. It could well be that the stones in the barn wall are just facework to the rock. That could explain where the boulder comes from. I would be tempted to hand dig one or two trial holes against the wall of the barn up to...

    Heatwave

The effect of increase in CO2 has been modeled and seems to match the observed increase in temperatures. The models (there are more than one) are being continuously updated to take into account of the observations and research. And to answer your question about cause and effect it works both...

    Heatwave

It is far easier to estimate the future carbon output of buildings and machines than it is for the consumption/sequestration surrounding vegetation. If Canada gets warmer dryer summers there will be more forest fires which will produce CO2. What happens if the permafrost starts releasing...

    Heatwave

I think there are many reasons other than fear. The people who were warning about climate change were often also supporters of CND etc. People who disagreed with CND etc assumed that they were also wrong about climate change. If people have come out publicly and said something is rubbish it...
