Can I add anything to the floor before new carpet

Welcome to the forum. I have seen newspaper under the carpet underlay in my house. Whilst it would cut down the drafts it would not support the carpet as @Phil Pascoe points out.

Hardboard or thin plywood will stop drafts up through the floor boards.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

What about the temperature of the brick wall behind the radiator. That will heat up slower than the air as well. And both will cool down slower so releasing heat in the evening.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

The radiators will have thermal mass so will heat up slower than the air when it is warm and hold onto the heat for when you need it when it cools down. But I doubt it will have much significance when compared to the walls floor etc all added together. There have been buildings designed with...

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

The radiators are not cold they are just at around room temperature. Unless water is circulating from a colder place they will track room temperature in the same way as a solid internal partition. The radiators feel cold because metal transfers heat quickly, what you want in a radiator. When...

    Saving fuel

True. Its not economic yet so can not be relied on to deal with CO2.

    Saving fuel

CO2 can be captured and can be chemically combined so that it is not a gas.

    Saving fuel

From Britannica "pollution, also called environmental pollution, the addition of any substance (solid, liquid, or gas) or any form of energy (such as heat, sound, or radioactivity) to the environment at a rate faster than it can be dispersed, diluted, decomposed, recycled, or stored in some...

Pollution is the issue. CO2 is pollution. Less petrol/ diesel will mean less CO2 produced.

    Saving fuel

I would not be surprised if they lower the speed limit for petrol/ diesel but not electric. Fuel use increses quite qiuckly after 50 mp to 60 mph so reducing the speed limit for the most polluting vehicles would have an impact.

What beam size do I need ?

Maybe there is some constraint on foundations on the 7000 long sides. Purlins spanning to a wall would produce a UDL on a strip footing. The ends of beams and columns would produce a point load. Hopefully he will log on and give more info.

People who wish to will be able to buy nosier bigger vacuums. Others will still be free to buy smaller quieter ones with better designed motors that give more suck per watt.

But what are the usable miles per £. If you make a special journey to the ESSO etc station those miles do mot count towards the improved mpg.

What beam size do I need ?

I am not sure what you mean by this. Are you going to have columns in the workshop or will it be 7 X 5. The rule of thumb for starting a design is a span/20 for simple supported and span/26 for continuous. And span / 7 for cantilever. You need to guess the size of the beam to design it quickly...

My brother does programming with a bit of support for the programs he has written. He has stopped using the instruction "hit any key".

    Renting a campervan for work

If you are putting the motor home on site, assuming you are allowed will you have access to their electric. If you do you will need a long enough lead. You may also need a means of securing a window if that is where the lead comes from. Many sites have showers and most have a microwave. May...
