    Mortgage rates / interest etc

As I stated above it is perfectly possible to tax the export of profit and fees.

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

If a multi national is not paying the same taxes as a local business it can out compete the local company. It is perfectly possible to tax the export of profits from a locality and payment of fees to outside bodies.

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

Why should a landlord get a subsidy to buy a house but not a owner occupier.

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

If mortgage brokers had a crystal ball they would not be mortgage brokers. They would be betting on the money markets where they could make far more money.

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

You are correct it went back down to 10% the following day. My mortgage for some strange reason did not go down for a while.
  6. J

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

    Only went down 2%

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

Its a gamble. You are paying less than I did in the early 90s. There are many people here including me whose mortgage went up 3% in a day (was going to be 5% but they changed their mind in the evening after we left the ERM)

Routing - Why use Guide Bushes instead of bit + bearing

I have only done a few cuts as only have had a router for a few months. But I would say bearing for one off and a bush for repeats. But as i said a may be wrong, I have only used a bearing..

The rates will be going up 1% on 3 November. maybe 1/4% less but more likely 1/4% more.

    workshop layout guides / planners?

I would cut up a cereal box into the size of your machines, bench etc and the sizes of material you commonly use and max sizes like an 8X4 sheet. Then have a play on a table top marked with your garage size.

Advice needed: foul water seeping from neighbour's house into my subfloor

The trouble is nearly everybody has come across one of the bad landlords.

Advice needed: foul water seeping from neighbour's house into my subfloor

I would ask the neigbour nicely for the landlords contact details. "As you do not want to put the neigbour in the middle". You do not know what the neigbour will say to the landlord. They will have their own motives which will not match yours or the landlords. You can also end up with Chinese...

Advice needed: foul water seeping from neighbour's house into my subfloor

Sadly, it is true that many tenants are asked to leave because they ask for repairs to be done. This landlord may want to maintain the property but the tenants do not know this until they point out a defect. Do they feel lucky and gamble their home.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

I would agree that heat pump tumble dryers are the best solution if you are forced to dry indoors more than a few times a year. The capital cost is a lot higher but the break even point has changed drastically in the last year.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

Carlisle gets 14.07 days with less than 1mm of rain in January and 11.63 days in February. With 81mm total in January and 69mm in February. Teignmouth gets 13.13 days and 11.23 days with little rain. And gets 97mm in January and 73 in February. We get less dry days when we can put our washing...

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

I have never tried to dry the kids on the line. I think they would object.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

I dry my clothes on the line, no £5 per month. As long as you do not need a specific item of clothing and have enough clothes there are no problems. Even in January and February clothes will dry but you may not be able to wash clothes every week.

    Sauter Shop and import taxes

It depends on how much they sell in the Great Britain (NI is not so effected by Brexit which makes some unhappy). If a company sells a lot to us it would be certainly worth them putting up there prices to pay for Brexit taxes and bureaucracy and still make some money.

    Sauter Shop and import taxes

Its sad but understandable that some EU suppliers are unwilling to employ people to keep abreast of the UK customs requirements that have been introduced because of Brexit. UK retailers are likely to stock more EU products with time if there is enough volume for them to employ people to deal...
