Choosing a scroll-saw. Why pay more? the answer is here.

I have an old Delta and bought a several more for spares, not that I needed to, so I sold them on. Keep an eye on ebay or other second hand sites for a cheap machine, I would consider around £75 reasonable for a non runner but with the quickset clamps in good condition.

    Flying Dutchman blades woe.

There was a problem a while ago, it being a bad batch, mainly across the big pond with the quality of the Dutchman blades just as you're describing, I think that they were returning them for blades from a newer batch.

    Turning and burning!

I find that leaving the protective covering on plastics and acrylics helps prevent the melt back.

    Turning and burning!

Cover your patterns with clear parcel tape, this helps to stop the wood burning, something to do with the release agent on the back of the tape.

    Vice for scroll saw projects

I would have thought that sanding the face of all your wood before cutting must be better. That's if I understand your problem correctly.

The Delta experience - I have questions.

Slacken the clamps, put the blade in then push it down or up until it stops then tighten the clamp up. Then push the lever back, if the doesn't apply enough tension then the bolt on top of the arm needs screwing in. This is a lot harder to put in words than show you, if you are anywhere near...

The Delta experience - I have questions.

The play in clamps goes away when you tension the blade. The lever at the side of the top arm needs to come forward when fitting a blade, you then push the lever back to where it is in the photo and this tensions the blade and stiffens up the clamps. If doing this doesn't tighten up the blade...
