The only Olson blade I use is the No.7 double tooth PGT mainly for cutting 3/4" hardwoods, I find that it lasts well and I can't remember breaking one, they always blunt first. happy scrolling Steve

Mal and John, I think that all types of the 40 540 had the Quickset blade clamps, see here, http://www.ereplacementparts.com/search ... 2040%20540 so there's not much you could do to improve it. Like John says it's the best clamping system in the world. Just don't over tighten the top clamp...

Well I've tried the 0 blades, cut this 8" x 6" plaque out of 1/4" Oak with them, I know it was a tough test, used 5 blades and took an hour to do. Sanded to 320 and Danish Oil finish. I thought they did well and will consider getting some more. pattern by Sue Mey. happy scrolling Steve

Martin, when you do the first cut don't take the loose pieces out that way there won't be such a thickness variation of the wood for the second cut and that may make it easier for you. happy scrolling Steve
