    Glues

I usually use cascamite for structural glue ups, but a colleague has suggested ea40 or mt13 epoxy as an alternative. Thing is, I very rarely use more than a dollop, certainly never get to more than a serving spoon in quantity used in a 12 month. Any thoughts on products available in small...

    Resin 'inlay' on carving?

I didn't bake whatever it was I used, it was an air drying polymer, must have mis-remembered the product, milliput sounds more likely, many apologies.

    Resin 'inlay' on carving?

Yes, it works very well. I've used Fimo to good effect, pouring resin on a curved surface will run straight off though. Not really what you mean, but this is engraved hawthorn carved with v-tool and "filled" with varnish coloured with charcoal

    Model glider mini minimoa

I used to fly with South Wales Slope Soaring Association when they flew off of Eglwysilan as it it only 15 minutes away but their preferred slope at the Bwlch is too far. I guess I should think of getting back in touch, but there are so many cracking slopes all around me...

    Model glider mini minimoa

I have a little experience , started with a Bullet glider (still have it), an indestructible high density foam and tape type, also built a few balsa crunchies. Mostly I enjoy mini park fly/indoor semi scale electric for relaxed circuits, can't do stunt flying though

    Model glider mini minimoa

Don't want to hijack the plane threads elsewhere, but, seeing the r/c gliders in those threads makes me think I want to buy and build an old favourite of mine, a mini minimoa, and lo and behold vintage aircraft have re-imagined the 50inch keel craft kits for 2 chanel r/c. TBH even 50 inch is...

    Steaming wood

Loved that video, brought back lots of memories, "boil in the bag" was what the shipwight I used to work with always used, even on huge timbers, now I use a much smaller version on longbows, its very effective.

    Steaming wood

Submerging the timber a week or two prior to steaming really makes a big difference.

    electric scooters

The scooter should not have been there, it is likely the driver would say that he had done checks for pedestrians and was looking for road vehicles on the road, was unsighted by vehicle blindspot the scooter had clearly been going excessively quickly as he had not had time to stop/take evasive...

    Edwardian moldings repro sources?

Not having a table saw might be more of a problem :) I'll use the plough plane instead

    Edwardian moldings repro sources?

Full confession, I also have a small number of what I call molding planes but you call H&R, had them 15 years, have no idea what profile they are as, even though I am a wood-carver and hand tool specialist- only have 4 power tools- I hate running moldings. I will check them and see if they can...

    Edwardian moldings repro sources?

I must have been dead in the head when I posted yesterday, it was an especially hard week in work. I found this under my bench this morning, inherited it 15 years ago, the box has never been opened. Would a Stanley 50 help?

Stuff for my BA submission in August. AKA Welcome to The Dark Side.

Sad isnt it? One of my personal favourites in National Museum Wales Cardiff are the plaster carvings Burgess carved of the animals for the castle bridge, made for the masons to point from

Stuff for my BA submission in August. AKA Welcome to The Dark Side.

Loved this thread, learned a lot, thank you Adam, regarding carvers in late medieval/early modern, the master would prepare drawings and carve maquette in plaster, or more commonly in carving wax, his team would take measures from the models. Michelangelo made a miniature of David to carve...

    Edwardian moldings repro sources?

The diagonal line shows possible solution to the wall having been hacked off and skimmed resulting in the molding being buried, corner beadings will prevent me knocking back the plaster so I'm going to have to make the new one much thinner.

    Edwardian moldings repro sources?

I am building a mirror image of the original alcove cupboard in our early 20th century terrace. It has a complex molding acting as a cover strip across the top and down one edge, totalling about 12ft in length. Before I file out a scratch-stock, any ideas where I might source some. I'm in...
