    Barrel top dresser delaminated

I have a barrel top dresser in my damp garage and one end of the top has delaminated over about 6 inches from one end- maybe been dripped on from roof condensation? Anyway, the laminates have corrugated/rippled just to complicate matters. Any advice on how to repair this situation?

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Doors, always trim the doors. Can’t really tell from the photo but sometimes shimming the hinges with thin card can help on wonky frames

Any green woodworkers, esp. spoon carvers on here?

This little scoop is one of my favourites

Any green woodworkers, esp. spoon carvers on here?

Most indispensable tool for spoon carving is any form of medium sweep gouge, straight will do just fine - something around a 12mm No 8 works well. A spoon-bend or long-bend gouge is marginally more useful but not as much difference as you might think

    Do you sell your stuff?

Size matters. I can carve a netsuke and it will take a week or longer but who will pay a week’s wage for that jewel - it’s a very niche product. Or, I can chainsaw carve a penguin 2 feet tall and painted in a couple of hours, or an owl, or a couple of mushrooms, or whatever and sell for a fair...

    Ebonising oak

I think the level of blackness depends on the amount the oak has seasoned and perhaps air dried rather than kiln dried- green oak goes really black. Pre-soaking in strong tea can be a big help, I imagine, in restoring tannins . I ebonised this with rusty nails in vinegar, but other oak I have...

    Scotch broom timber properties

Cleave it and you’ll see why it’s called raspberry ripple wood. It is VERY hard, would be excellent for turning, especially pen blanks, I would think.

    Scotch broom timber properties

Anyone know the density and elasticity of cytisus scoparius? I can’t seem to find it’s properties listed in the timber databases I searched on-line

    Wood carving courses

Also, Although the British Woodcarving Association is no more, the British Decoy and Wildfowl Carving Association (BDWCA) might be worth contacting for advice. If Shardlow is not too far away the Trent Valley group of the BDWCA seem to meet there. Try an internet search for local clubs...

    Wood carving courses

It’s tricky because of existing skill sets. A total novice may never have picked up any woodworking tools, whereas others turn up with 40 years of working with wood, so all the chapters in a book like Chris Pyes excellent primer on tool and timber selection and use, on benches and holding are...

Recommendations for low price ultrasonic cleaner for Stihl carburetor

Starting and running at full chat put very different loads on the engine and it takes 2 minutes to check a spark plug gap. I can only tell you that mine started easily but bogged down when I opened the throttle and the issue was with the plug. Doesn’t mean you have the same issue but it’s such...

Recommendations for low price ultrasonic cleaner for Stihl carburetor

Aspen fuel is incredible. I start my saw once or twice a year. Always starts and runs. Only once I had a problem like the one your describing it was the spark plug needed cleaning and gapping but I’m sure you checked that already
