    Sculpture.

That is stunning. Love that the faces look war-ravaged not the generic handsome warrior look

Secret Santa 2022 - post your pictures here.

Completely in awe, totally gobsmacked. When I was about ten, I got given a kids woodwork set for Christmas, Russian made all wood and steel, everything actually worked- pin hammer, wedged block plane, proper mini frame saw. That frame saw was my prized possession for years, well look what Ss...

    Winter storage ideas

My better half doesn’t like my projects filling up the house but my damp and unheated single skin garage workshop is not good for complex inlays using animal glues. I’ve invested in bubble wrap, any suggestions on additional layers of protection against the elements?

    Timber ID help please

The last yew bow I made went “bang” just as I was nearly done tillering. Heartwood and sapwood separated, bow blew up into 3 pieces. Most likely a fungus moving through one or two rings

    Timber ID help please

I posted the images elsewhere and someone familiar with the bow confirmed it is yew, but thanks for looking

    Timber ID help please

This one is a bit different. This is a crossbow, its 600 years old and was pulled from a castle moat near Malmo in Sweden. Everything in me is screaming yew. Having been buried in mud, using colour as an ID tool might not be appropriate but the grain, knots and bark all look right for yew to...

    ANPR insurance issue

Talking to my insurers, they are mystified as everything their end is correct. All the officers had to do was a MID (motor insurance database) check to see whetherANPR was correct. They are also confused as the police should have cancelled the tow fee once proof of insurance was provided. Now...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Ummm probably going to sound pedantic but I thought honing was done with something firm (like an mdf disk mounted in a lathe or bench grinder) but a strop was a leather strap?

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I’m told mdf is abrasive enough to hone a chisel without an abrasive sheet but never been brave enough to try

    How is this inlay done?

Thanks, presumably the glue would be a hide glue to be heat activated? Must admit I have not had much joy with ironing veneers over gelatine. I use heat bending often but those compound curves are scary
