    Magnifying lens

Thats what I have(or had until i dropped it and if by pure luck found the marble hearth :( I picked up another big lens on ebay. It's about 3" across, convex on both sides but as overhead projector lenses are flat on one side, i've no idea what it originated from. I think its either a x3 or x4...

    US Election November 5th

If they think trump is the ideal candidate to run the US, then I reckon thats a good thing. Clearly that party needs a good shake up to cut out the rot. Narcissistic *** offender and failed businessman who won't pay his bills. Doesn't sound like a statesman to me, rather an egotistical clown...

Countertop cutout fail and how to correct it?

Which is a perfectly acceptable reason for going off and buying one. A small trim router like the Makita RTO702 will do the job as the base is small and that can prove handy when like this the workpiece is still in situ It is currently on sale at Screwfix with 20% off so only £99...

    US Election November 5th

So the rich get richer, and the poor poorer, even those holding reasonably good jobs, as we've seen with nurses using foodbanks. Which then leads to this. Germany, Bosnia etc etc

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Normal for us butchers to move beef in the form of a forequarter-weighing about 120lbs or a hind quarter-weighing about 150lbs from the suppliers van to the chill and from the chill to the block. Damn greasy to get any sort of grip on, and you needed to get it on to your shoulder, resting...

Wacky things you've made and don't know what to do with!

Well no i had it in my head from an encounter from when i was in the scouts at a jamboree. Some of the Dutch scouts had these one legged stools that attach around the waist with a leather strap, and when you go to sit down the stool moves and it pretty much automatically moves to create a place...

Wacky things you've made and don't know what to do with!

I made a one legged stool. Gave it to someone i was working with It's always the best thing to gift it to someone, as that takes the worry as what to do with these damn things right out the equation.

Has anyone used this crystal clear shellac.

I would just stick to traditional clear shellac - under the name of - Transparent

Not really that bad this year Completely normal for a summers day  However Population density for England per sq mile -1,124 Population density for Scotland per sq mile - 181 Wales-396. Ni Ireland-355 Down south, they are really packing them in. Come up by all means, perfectly welcome...

    Festool Saw Stop Table saw

Ahh but you needed a fence to create this fence  I was initially looking at the festool, but the price is pretty extreme, and the saw accessories are pretty damn pricey too. For example the extension is £250 Two hundred and fifty quid for a bit of alloy is just milking it. Then you have...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

^^ Time and motion studies, usually devised by people who haven't done manual labour and and are in overpaid positions. It's a heartless concept, that should have been consigned to history, and in my mind it is little better than slavery. Type of thing a tory would come up with. I hope you're...

What finish for outdoor maple table?

Cuprinol "Ultimate Furniture Oil" I dont think is that good, and all it does is provide is money to cuprinol as its well overpriced in comparison to teak oil by a very large margin. Personally Im not a fan of things like "ultimate oil" mainly as i see it as just being an overpriced product...

I've been trying to find info on disposable bags. I've the bagpress system which i think is fine for standard glues, but with epoxy, where its going to bleed through and come ion contact with the bag its not such a good thing. I've watched a number of vids on boatbuilding, where its epoxy onto...

    Mafell MT55CC KIT

I like the mafell roll up guide rail. Best idea for one, as they're usually a complete pain in the bum trying to transport it without it being damaged. Having it roll up and fit in the case is a marvelous concept

My mistook. I'd clicked on your 'dougsworkshop' link but google seemed to interpret that as TwaDugsWorkshop)Two Dogs) which is a furniture design workshop in Ayr, And i seemed to remember someone at college who possibly was called Douglas Hence the ask.

It's those 2" boards, they always cost a pretty penny. Nice door incidentally. Nicer workshop. And that sure is a rather large Festool investment. Can I ask. Did you go to the building and printing college in Glasgow ?

    Advice needed

I take it you mean the copper covered bit. And are you sure thats the part that comes off ? as usually tap turny bits are push on and come off as a whole. Like drawing excaliber from the stone, get a good grip on the main part and try to pull it straight off

    Simple finish.

Beeswax is a bit soft and chances are you'll rub most of it off with your clothing. Danish probably fine, and again its not the usual finish for something you intend sitting on. Spray lacquer for the win.
