One of the funniest representations of a Glasgow barman.

We did the same using the nitrate fertilizer/caster sugar mix. But due to nitrate fertilizer being used in many IRA bombs, the UK government banned the stuff. I did experiment briefly using the contents of nailgun cartridges(this was 40 years ago) but being a teen and not really thinking that...

    Exploding Pagers - Lebanon

And theres irony in that. Though it looks like Israel missed a trick. As in can you imagine how that would have went if they went off during a Hezbollah/Israel war. Thousands of fighters and commanders taken down in an instant. That would have turned any tide. Still, we don't know if this is a...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

I was initially looking at the compact model. But after a bit of thought, and quite a few YT vids, i might go for the jobsite pro instead. I like the folding carriage/stand, which looks a lot more stable than the usual compact table saw stand some systems come with.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Theres stuff called P.E.G that I think totally penetrates wood, replaces all water in the cells with a resin, which kind of makes it a kind of plastic, but with obviously woody structure " Use to stabilize green wood to keep it from cracking, splitting and shrinking. Wood treated with...

Haggling on price - is it the done thing?

I would say when it comes to negotiating a price, first approach with a 'Can we negotiate a price' or 'Can we do anything about the price' rather than coming in with a low ball figure that might be too far below expectation and start things off on a bad footing. Try not to make it sound...

Heres one example of manufacturers sharing the fitting. Bosch and Fein. Though that said i dont know if Bosch and Fein are part of the same group. But with so many smaller companies being bought up, that might be the way it goes...

    Oyster Veneering

Cheers  old wounds torn open. We used to have a pretty old Laburnum tree in the family garden, diameter probably about 6"-7" which is pretty big for that tree, and I had it earmarked for oysters. Laburnum oysters at 6"-7" is a rare and near impossible size to be lucky enough to get, most...

£1,000 budget for a planer thicknesser - what would you buy?

I've consider a cheap surfacer and separate thicknesser. Most better quality stand alone thicknessers are 12 or 13 inches. A combined PT at that width can be a pretty heavyweight item and command a fair bit of floor space. Good thing about a separate thicknesser you can use it outside where...

    Awkward Space Storage Solutions?

What would be handy is perhaps something like a table saw on runners. So you could slide it out. Plus that's not going to use all the space and there'd be room left over for box storage.

Multi tools, huh! What are they good for?

Swiss mini champ. I got each of my nephews one of these when they turned 16, basically as its a good keyring knife, and as a sign of trust. And of course proving beyond reasonable doubt that this uncle gets the bestest of gifts. 8+ years down the line they're still in use. Small but they...

They have. A set of anti kickback fingers/pawls come with the saw. They attach to the riving knife. Might be an idea old chap is you actually look at the features of the saw before passing judgement ;)

    Veneer/ laminate ?

that would effectively make it a bit of plywood, but tbh i cant see that having a different species would make that much difference. Since buying a bagpress system, ive been meaning to do a bit more veneering, and after a bit of looking about, its incredible the types of veneer that is now...

Did you know that lightbulbs are designed to fail ? I read somewhere that the original design meant that the bulb would have a working life measured in the decades, but with everything, if it doesn't fail, you quickly go out of business.

I'm sure I recently caught sight of there being an EU directive where in the future all cordless power tools are going to have to share the same connection interface Could be wrong(frequently am) as its nothing I've actually read, but got a niggle in my head theres something like this brewing...

You can 'peel' a coconut using a tablesaw Drop the blade right down so it projects up about 2 or 3mm Next. Holding the coconut in both hands, one each side, spin it slowly around so the blade cuts a groove. Expand the groove by moving the nut left and right until eventually the entire coconut...
