@Deadeye - check out my recent thread on a workbench build - I surfaced a 2m x 740mm hardwood benchtop using a router sled and it performed pretty well with only marginal tear-out on the cutter edges and nothing that couldn't be cleaned up with a finely set block plane and a scraper.
I used a...
@Cabinetman The edges aren't rounded but are relieved with a 45° chamfer so relatively foot-friendly !!
Not the best shot - as you can see a bit of a mess near floor level, also whilst I was there I eyeballed the base joints and drawer sag - maybe 1mm over 13y..!
Finished bench - aside from one drawer-pull !!
I seem to have lost pictures of the tail carriage build but here is the bench near completion with drawers fitted, conventional vice fitted and all but one drawer handle done.
The drawers run on double ball-race slides and are rated at over 20kg...
Build continued...
Upon reflection I suspect if my cross-slide had been more rigid I wouldn’t have ended up with those tramlines, however in practice they were not deep and actually came off pretty easily with a finely set block plane and a scraper –
It was around this time I had a Wallace &...
This is a bit of a retrospective as in I built this workbench in 2011 but I thought I’d share here since folks seem to like bench builds and for sure for me this was an interesting project and not without its lairy moments – so good fun along the way!
To set the scene, 5y previously I’d been...
No deal - I weighed it on my bathroom scales and its 36Kg - Record say it's 33kg so removing the cast table isn't going to bring it under pallet weight charges - sorry,

2 Record heavy duty and 2 Toolstation stands. one of the Records has a slight nick from a circular saw but still rolls fine and these have allowed me to single-handed slab numerous railway sleeper size hardwoods on my Kit613
bandsaw.
Lots more hand tools are available too numerous to itemise if...
Since this is now sold, I'll stick mine up on the For Sale forum, can't remember if its got any dings nor what state the wheels are in, but when I haul it out from under the detritus I'll be able to assess it and adjust price accordingly... - I didn't want to impact your sale @Blister !!
Hi Fitzroy,
It does come apart but no part of it is light - when I attempted to get it off the pallet it arrived on it was a 2-man struggle to lift the table alone off -the horseshoe fence support alone weighs 20kg.... The base was still too heavy for two to nudge so I took the gib plate off...
Just a heads up if this is not saleable I will likely scrap it - perhaps the tooling and motor may be saleable.
It would be a shame but I appreciate things have moved on a bit since this beast was built!
