    Can you ID this?

That looks remarkably like a Record 44 that I sold recently, albeit mine was in pristine condition...

    Saw tooth bits

For many years I used a cheap set of Hilka bits like these I found them to be pretty good, albeit you need a powerful high torque variable speed drill for some of the larger one, and even whilst using smaller ones I found there is a sweet spot in terms of rpm and feed rate dependant in part...

    Table saw fence

Being more or less ambidextrous I don't really care which side it sits, I guess it depends on what you are most comfortable with and if one side over the other offers any advantage for the cut you are making

Why you need a full length well in your work bench.

Haha! Within a few years it started to move laterally and although I'd catered for that with breadboard ends a particularly wild grained piece near the front had opened up quite a bit - maybe 2+mm, no doubt stresses from the bench dogs didn't help, so I routed out a strip along its length and...

Why you need a full length well in your work bench.

When I recently sold my bench it was a tad over 1mm - i.e. no well but the top had moved in the intervening 13y since it was built.... :)

Bandsaw blades- what to do with snapped ones

I used to make pressure boards with my old blades - snap them to suitable lengths and make multiple half depth angled cuts into two timber strips and assemble -PVA glue seems to hold them well. I used to use these as hold-down pressure plates on table saw, spindle or anything else requiring an...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

As has already been mentioned, I'd steer well clear of anything designed or fabricated by yourself, the public liability risk to yourself is huge as you become responsible for the safety of your clients. I'd certainly double check what public liability cover you have before considering this...

    Combination Pliers

Slightly off-topic since they are not combination tools, however I would also recommend Lindstrom however I would beware many of the online sellers since AFAIKT they no longer manufacture box-jointed tools and to my mind this aside from the high quality of their steel was one of their strengths...

    Oh FFS!!

I have a sense of Deja vu, this either means the prior item never sold last time or that it did and the artisan has created another.... If it's the latter then it speaks volumes of some folks tastes...

For Sale 3 phase startrite 18-s-10 Bandsaw £150 Harlow

Bit weird tranny says 415 input 240V output but only at 0.03 KVA... seems unlikely to be powering the principal motor of this beast....

    Shooting board woes

Don't give up, its likely down to poor technique and advice already proffered will steer you in the right direction. My 1st and in fact only 90 degree shooting board was made from shuttering ply off-cuts when I 1st built my workshop and once waxed and with a good sharp plane it was a pleasure to...

Second, third or more lease of life.

wrt tips and lawnmowers I once picked up an ex-council 24" verge jobby, it had a cracked ally sump which I fixed after a thorough clean with RTV... It even had the tow hooks for the ride-on bit and it certainly pulled well up slopes when I lived in hilly High Wycombe :)

    Blade drift in bandsaw

Just my two cents - I would ensure that your blade is set up correctly in terms of tension and position upon the top wheel too since this will - particularly if you have crowned wheels affect the saw tracking. I have recently sold it but had a Kity 613 that I bought from new back in the day and...

    Obsession looks like...

Yes I did, I spent a week there, albeit commuting from Ridgecrest each day. The day I went to the Ubehebe crater was the hottest and also the windiest, even the 4x4 I'd hired was rocking in the car park and the heat so intense it was akin to sticking your head in the oven along with the Sunday...

    Machinery refurbishment

I guess it is always a challenge finding the time to do extra stuff - back in the day I was holding down a high pressure job/career in the city and would come home, eat a meal, likely kids already in bed and I'd change out of my suit and head off into my garage to make replacement window frames...

    Machinery refurbishment

I'd echo what others above have said, these days with the high labour costs and rising prices and potential lack of availability of spare parts to restore or refurbish a machine is often a labour of love and not a commercial proposition. If you have some basic engineering knowledge and tools...

I want to thank all the contributors to this site for sharing their cumulative knowledge and experience that has enabling many less experienced woodworkers, myself included, to complete their projects or embrace new skills and techniques on new or future projects. I have recently sold the...

What has happened to my oak post?

I am pretty certain this is caused by wood scraping wasps who use the pulp to build their nests. Typically as with yours they will work along the grain.... The variety I had were Belgian I am told, and they can create quite devastating damage in some cases, but seem to not like Cedar so when I...

Can you explain this table saw cut?

Have you checked that the uncut edge nearest the blade in the photo is still dead straight? As others suggest this has likely happened because of stresses building up in the timber when it was drying out and as you've cut it you have released those stresses and it has tried to close up such...
