    Best joints for workbench

Umm, Why fix the top to the base? - I built a workbench out of maybe 150mm deep Maple strips on the apron and ~60mm top so as to accommodate dog holes for a tail vice and I located this onto the base using 2 x 30mm square Sapele pegs located at the front that were morticed into the front...

    Gold leaf supplier

I bought all my gilding supplies at Cornelissen - they do mail-order and I appreciate a bit of a trek from Scotland however the shop is well worth seeing if you are visiting London, it retains its original Victorian interior and is a absolute treasure trove of artists materials

    Drill guides

I have the Makita brushless model and wondered why it came with such a ridiculously long but thankfully detachable adjustable steady, that is until I was using it with a similar drill bit to that in the video, and when it bound in the timber the torque damn near took my hand off!

    Airbrush cleaning

Makes sense - imho most similar stains are alcohol based and not cellulose - easy to tell them apart by their smell :)

    New House, New Workshop Build.

The quality of trades around at present does seem to be particularly poor - I had a plasterer in recently who was absolute rubbish and has left me with a massive mess to clear-up, I'd have plastered it myself but am getting too old for that game.... My sister had similar experiences when a water...

    New House, New Workshop Build.

Oops hit post prematurely.. the what I think is likely a supercapacitor so even on a dull day it has enough power to close the window and the battery powered remote can be used if necessary albeit it has always managed to close itself automatically and doesn't appear to suffer from false...

    New House, New Workshop Build.

I have one of those fitted to a vaulted ceiling at the head of my stairs and in the 10+y it's been fitted it hasn't missed a beat. The mechanism uses very little power to operate since the window is well balanced and even on a dull day the solar panel generates enough juice to charge

My Evolution Mitre Saw done me well

I doubt that many/any sandpaper is itself conductive for example aluminium oxide is actually quite a good insulator. What you do need to do is make sure you clean any dust/copper shards from between the commutator segments after any sanding - a toothbrush and cellulose thinners work well as I...

Another workbench on youtube but what a bench

Certainly an impressive workbench, I was going to add workshop too but Blister just beat me to it!! Couple of points - Having multiple dogs to stop them from filling up with detritus is precisely what I did on my bench built back in 2011 That solution to wracking on the Moxon vice is neat but I...

    Pale Pine floorboards

I'll second that - Pine has a habit of going orange if merely varnished and the trick to achieve that look is to paint with a thinned white base prior to the final protective finish. If you search my thread you'll see how I used a similar technique way more subtle than that which you want but...

    Which anvil?

Loved the video, I've seen Will before on his metalwork channels - he's a very talented young guy

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Nice re-cycle, also love the holder for the hacksaw below the metalwork vice - nice touch and so handy!!

Agree with Spectric's advice, you need both architect and beam supplier in to discuss the potential impact on loading - at shallower pitches snow can become an issue.

Wowsers, that is not good..... Given the SWMBO issue I don't know what to suggest, albeit the route I took (predating my house purchase) which involved a significant legal expense and likely years off my life was via the matrimonial courts and so is definitely not to be recommended... Could you...

    New House, New Workshop Build.

This reminds me of my house extension that had vaulted ceilings and glulam hip beams - I'd miscalculated by maybe 0.8m the hip lengths but luckily they were long enough to straddle the inner skin of the cavity wall, so I took some joist offcuts and glu-laminated and morticed and tenoned them...

Ah - quite likely I use Pi-hole... Thanks for that!!

    Trimble, and Sketchup...

I suspect it's either a problem their end, or they don't like Google Chrome browser, either way not a problem for me as I downloaded Siemens Solid Edge instead !

cleaning rust from machine tools ?

I concur that fibreglass scratch pens are good for this but would add that you might want to exercise some caution when using them - fibreglass shards are incredibly irritating if they become embedded in your finger tips, and also the dust is pretty nasty too. Particularly relevant for this type...

    Trimble, and Sketchup...

Only the other day I was looking at Sketchup, however didn't want to have stuff online only so I tried to download a trial version and hit a similar problem whereby it asks me to sign in/create account but takes me to a placeholder page that looks like it is failing to load some necessary fields...

cleaning rust from machine tools ?

No not really the paint is a pretty good insulator @12V and is inert to the Soda at the concentration required to make it work. I looked just now at that plane and whilst there is the odd chip in the paint, the electrolysis has merely cleaned the exposed metal, and where the paint is pretty thin...
