Budget mitre saw with forward facing rails

My misunderstanding of double bevel. I thought it meant ability to cut compound angles but I see now this ability is restricted by the vertical set being one sided meaning you'd have swing the workpiece round to cut an opposing bevel. It does have a spindle lock to enable blade change. The hold...

Beech. Those little flecks in grain and the smooth bark identity it. Brian

Budget mitre saw with forward facing rails

From what I can see from the advertisement photos the 'unique' design of the Rutlands is the same as the Hyundai. Perhaps the 'Rutlands' nameplate makes it unique! At 150 quid, the Rutland version looks particularly good value at the moment compared with the Screwfix price. Beware the Screwfix...

    Pneumatic toilet flush button.

If it works, but not very well, inspect the pressure tube(s) and push button for leakage. Check the cistern valve mechanism for free movement. How old is it? As a last resort use a bucket (of water that is, not bucket & chuck it, although that may be the very last resort) Brian

    Remember your first....

So there I was, probably aged about 9, on my first paid job helping our milkman on his delivery round. He had one of those electric floats (can anybody beat that for a first ride in an EV?). They were slow and cold - no doors for easy entry/exit, but ideally suited to the job. At one house he...

Budget mitre saw with forward facing rails

I bought a Hyundai about a year ago. I haven't used it a great deal but it seems a competent machine. I had to do a bit of fettling to get the table angle detent mechanism to work satisfactorily. The peg wasn't locating in the detent socket properly allowing a bit of angular play. The cause was...

making simple unfinished wood picture frames - what set up for a newbie?

Let's start at the beginning; getting hold of the stock. I think you'll need to find a local business that can machine up sawn timber to your specific width and thickness requirements. This could be a furniture maker or a joinery co. Where in London are you? SL Hardwoods in Croydon will supply...

Does being right or lft-handed determine which way round a room you go when painting ?

Some other interesting(?) phenomena. Ask yourself these questions:- Which sock do you put on first Have you got one foot larger than the other Which leg do you lead with on climbing stairs or a ladder Which leg do you use to get up from a kneeling position If you shave which side do you start...

    Makita Orbital sanders

Another vote for the Metabo. Just looked at the Makita specs and the 6030 is much the same as the Metabo with a 300W motor. The 6050, however, has a 750W motor for the same size pad. Reason? The 6050 also comes in 2 versions with differing characteristics. Worth looking into. Brian

Does being right or lft-handed determine which way round a room you go when painting ?

That depends on where the clock is, floor or ceiling

    Disc Sander - which one?

There are any number of these 12" sanders emanating from China with various distributor names. You should be prepared for problems due varying QA at the manufacturer. It's therefore advisable to use distributor with a good customer service reputation and returns policy. The SIP from Parts For...

    Nutool scroll saw

I had one of those a few years ago. It had a different name on it, possibly Warco. I picked it up originally for next to nothing thinking it might get used one day. In fact I only ever used it once but came the day when I contemplated some more delicate work and realised I would need to upgrade...

I think you should read 'WHY WE MAKE THINGS AND WHY IT MATTERS' by Peter Korn:- https://www.abebooks.co.uk/9781784705060/Why-Things-Matters-Education-Craftsman-1784705063/plp Brian

Why are some router tables made up of cast iron but not others?

Solid Grade Laminate, but beware, that nice Mr Google advises it also means Same Gender Loving. In this context I assume it's the former. Brian
