Tongue and Groove plus Glue (plus Dowels!?)

I'm trying to interpret what you have described here. I take it that the stiles and top rail are being made from 25 x 75 and the bottom rail out of 25 x 100. You want to hold your glass panel in a groove in all 4 frame members. This will mean you will have to include the panel when assembling...

    Repair broken chair leg

I would use a threaded rod for reinforcement. Drill oversized holes in both parts to take the bar. Hold the leg end upright and glue the rod in with epoxy resin. When it's almost set, turn the chair upside down and pour in more resin. Coat the joint surfaces with resin and slowly insert the...

    Glueing pallet wood

No need to hope, it will work. I presume it's Gorrila PVA. Their PU glue would also be good but it's messy stuff and doesn't have a long shelf life. I've just had a delivery on a new pallet and I'd be happy gluing that up with no further preparation apart from de-nailing. Good Luck Brian

    Glueing pallet wood

Good Morning to you Sir, Firstly the glue type. A PVA would be my choice. It'll be kind to your turning tools and it's cheap. I expect this is what you will have seen on the videos. PVA works at a microscopic level so, ideally, the surface should be as smooth as possible, ie, it is not a...

Yes, you're right. I was doing it from memory at the time and didn't think it through completely. All the inside faces need to end up on the outside. Next time......... Brian

Does this look like water damage?

Looks to me like stains from water getting in through the plastic panel seals. Brian

Where did all the water go?!?

The quick answer to 'where did it go?' is that it didn't go anywhere It wasn't that the sea level went down, it was that the land mass came up. You were in the right place at Lulworth Cove to see spectacular examples of folding due to tectonic plate movement:- However the gut response to your...

Where did all the water go?!?

@Droogs A bit of correction to the above. Only a few hundred million years. The limestone at Lyme Regis was laid down in a shallow sea late in the Upper Jurassic period. The Jurassic as a whole covers the period from 208-146Ma (Ma=million years ago). The Lyme Regis layers would have been late...

Advice re: best detail power sander

This Festool sander appears to be a dual purpose machine in that it has 2 operating heads - triangular and circular. I've no doubt that it is a top quality unit, as with all Festool, but it comes at a price. The actual finish you can get depends more on the operator and the abrasives used than...

    Laminate deign - any suggestions?

Not sure what you're after here. A sketch might help. If it’s a properly laminated structure using, say, 10 x 5mm laminas, formed to produce a curved right angled bend, then it might support 75kg. However if it's basically a large bracket made of 2off 3x2's then it's going to need a brace or...

    drum sander?

Some open ended models have a removable support - see the Scott-Sargeant range. It's a mod I've been thinking of for my old Jet machine. Brian

    drum sander?

Laguna and Scott-Sargeant have a good range of 'decent' sanders. S-S have some good discounts on at the moment. Also look for Wide Belt Sanders. Brian

    Table edge veneering advice

First thought that came to me - is the basic structure satisfactory? Bonding 2 dissimilar woods together can result in bowing. In this case another layer of oak should be bonded to the underside so that the stresses on the pine are balanced. If the pine is massive compared with the 6mm oak, you...
