    Computer Experts - Monitor Issue

That's peculiar. I tried it earlier today and I got the monitor. Just tried it a 2nd time and got the arm. Go Figure as they say over there.

    Hello all!

Very nice. What is it? Have you had a few or are the shed foundations a bit suspect? Brian

New to wood, hoping to learn.

That's a great write-up Mick. We now know exactly where you're coming from. When you've made some space get that bench built and decide on something simple to make. But before you start make sure you have a decent sharpening setup to get those chisels and plane up to scratch (perhaps that's not...

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

Out of those 3 I would go for ash as it has a similar ring-porous grain structure to oak Brian

New to wood, hoping to learn.

Hi Mick, welcome. Do you have any thoughts on how your new hobby will progress? Do you aspire to getting job satisfaction by maximising use of hand tools or are you the sort who will want to get to the end product in the most efficient way. I'm of the latter persuasion, I enjoy my machinery but...

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

Good brown oak is precious stuff. I don't think you can do better than use it for detailing in conjunction with ordinary European oak as here:- Brian

    Used P/T Combo

Sorry about the wrong link. The Kity 638 I'm looking at doesn't have a plug on view, just a grey cable disappearing out out of sight. No mention of voltage in the description but you'd need to check. Brian

    Used P/T Combo

There's a nice Kity 638 in Brum if you can get up there. Only 3 days left. Could be a good buy. Brian

    Used P/T Combo

They're all basically simple machines and the only parts you are going to need are blades which are readily available from aftermarket suppliers. There is the remote chance that bearings may be required but they will be standard items. Brian

What to do with unwanted tools

I recently helped a friend out with the sale of all his tools. We sold about ⅓ here on the forum, ⅓ on ebay and the last ⅓ by auction (Pughs of Ledbury) Selling here on the forum is a delight, no hassle, no haggling (at least not in public), ebay is good if you know the ropes and the auction was...

    What got you started ?

For me it all started long before I was born. My paternal grandfather was the general handyman at the Crystal Palace before it burnt down in 1936. I inherited his blowtorch! My father was a draughtsman with the London Electricity Board and a devotee of Barry Bucknell. My brother preceded me by 5...

    Exhibition Stand

The photo doesn't do it justice really, Standing in front of it the clocks are quite distinct. There's also the ticking sound which is amplified by the boards. The movement also adds the presentation. There will also be other elements including my Bucky Lamp which will be controlled by a motion...

    Exhibition Stand

Getting my ducks in a row for next weekend's arts& crafts exhibition at THE DEERHURST FLOWER FESTIVAL Brian PS. Using OSB for the first time. Why is it called OSB? The 'strands' look very disoriented to me

Is a multi function workshop a flying submarine?

I think you've already identified the main problem - overthinking. I would advise turning the whole thing on its head. Decide on something you would like to make and JFDI. "But I haven't got a bench" I hear you say. Well get one. You don't have to make one; there's plenty of s/h ones out there...

    Long Clamp Advice

This is why I had a spare set. I've got 2 others mounted on steel box section tube. I can join the 2 together which gives me a 9' capability, however in 22 years I've only used it once in that mode. Brian

    Plywood for cabinets

I see that one is twice the cost of the other at Wickes so worth thinking about. I would happily use the cheaper stuff for cabinet sides and internal shelves but for tops I would go for the structural grade or provide support rails under the non-structural. Brian

    Axminster Bandsaw AWEFSBB

I've just had a look at it and it seems you're in good company. The others look static as well. I agree with Spectric, maybe not the best time. However, when you are competing with others, presentation is important. I think your photos could be improved. A full shot of the machine against a...

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

Beware, if you are planning to keep for the long term, they need to hibernate through the winter in cool conditions. My daughter had 2 which spent their winters in the bottom of the fridge. Also be aware that they need to have emptied their digestion system well beforehand. Brian
