Removing shallow dent in birch ply

The classic way is moisture and heat provided by a damp rag and a hot iron. Being plywood it may not be 100% successful if the underlying plys are bruised. As you say it's a bit of workshop kit so its going to get some more abuse in the future. I would not attempt to sand it just to make it...

Ovolo router cutters one radius is different from the other?

I agree it's not ideal, but in this situation compromise is required. My suggested fabrication could be rearranged to give a less fiddly glue up:- These parts could be glued into a stile rebate as separate items. @metso's description refers to a beading cut in. This is a little ambiguous. Is...

Ovolo router cutters one radius is different from the other?

I've traced from your photo and have found that the curve is actually circular, not eliptical. It's radius is 15mm:- My first thought was to find a router cutter with R=15 and set it up at an angle, but the largest R in a reasonably priced cutter is 12.7mm. My next thought was to create the...

The language is mutating (and always has done)

Here's an example of how our language is changing; irreversibly it would seem. I even heard P. William, sorry, P. of Wales (does that make him a POW?) get it wrong recently. In Fergie's case above his 'I' is the, or one of the, objects of the sentence and should therefore be 'me'. I suspect...

Tormek T4 or is it overkill for my needs?

I've had a Tormek for 20 years but it rarely gets used these days. A bench grinder and stone (water in my case) combo is a much quicker option. I only keep the Tormek for sharpening planer blades. Brian

    Cutting an in-situ ceramic tile

It all started a couple of weeks ago when our thermostatic shower valve finally gave up the ghost. It was going to cost me £130 to buy something with similar dimensions. The alternative was a lower spec simple manual control valve for £100 less. It arrived today so I set about fitting it right...

    Rant about screwfix

I went to Screwfix a few days ago and noticed the screens had been installed but were not yet operational. For some years if have frequented Toolstation in preference to Screwfix. I usually do the research online and followed by a click & collect order. My wife often picks it up while she's out...

New drum chip dust extractor help

You have got machine that is designed to move large volumes of air. Restricting that flow by reducing the pipe size will be detrimental. The way to overcome your dilemma is to provide an alternative flow path in addition to your 65mm pipe. A method to do this and give some control to the setup...

    lost chipbreaker screw

I've just checked the screws and chipbreakers from my Clifton 5.1/2, Record 4 and LN8 blade (fitted to a Stanley8). Guess what, they're all interchangeable for thread if not length. So @Peter Sefton 's offer looks a good shout. Brian PS Buy one and the old one will miraculously appear

I suggest you amend the title of this post to include reference to the LN4 plane. This may catch the attention of LN owners who might be able give details of the screw. Just a thought Brian

Hearing Aids and workshop noise - need advice, please

I'm in the same position, aids and specs. I have the aids working as normal in the shop. I have a pair of defenders which originally had a radio but is now removed. They are quite roomy and accommodate the aids well. The only problem is that they press on the spec arms which becomes...

    Dirty water?

Is there anything unusual about your water supply pipes? A friend of mine once connected a water supply in his garage to a sink in the kitchen. Unfortunately the clear plastic connecting pipe ran across the garage roof in full daylight. The resulting algae broke away and came out of the...

    Door seals - Schlegel AQ21

Yes, I fitted an AQ21 on my oak front door. Same fitting all the way round in the frame so it compresses on the hinge side and wipes on the other side, top and bottom. I bought a Trend router cutter to do the job and sold it on afterwards for almost the new price. Brian
