    WIP Oak Corner Desk

A few observations:- 1. I agree with Paul above on the strength of the T&G 2. 32mm of oak is not going to flex much and the metal plate is not going to provide any extra strength in addition to the worktop joining bolts. The diagonal brace has more merit. The plate, however...

Inside Corner for a Office Desk top (or kitchen worktop)

Your arrangement is very similar to the the one I made, ie, constrained at 2 ends. My MDF desktop was split into 3 sections, but my methodology would work for your 2 sections. My problem included out of square walls. My 3 sections used biscuits for alignment and these clamps on the underside for...

Gluing - how long to leave clamped

Squeeze it up until the joints are visibly closed. If not under any stress, should be safe to release after an hour. If it is stressed keep it clamped for a few hours. If you over tighten you may be introducing stresses which then cause movement on release. I recently looked up the difference...

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

Just had a further thought on this. I'm in the process of extensive changes in my workshop including the DX. Having seen the amount dust lying on the roof trusses after 16 years I realise my set-up is not the best. But, and it's a big but, this is not necessarily the fault of the vac system...

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

It's all a matter of degree - how safe? how healthy? You could go on for ever trying to get the perfect (in your view) system. Try Porton Down - they've got some good kit. Brian

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

Oh yes you can as Dave has demonstrated and others have stated. If ever there was a subject where 'suck-and-see' applies this is it. Once you have an idea of what might be needed get something and try it. Err on the upper end of your estimated capacity and jfdi. Brian

Inside Corner for a Office Desk top (or kitchen worktop)

If the 2 legs are of different widths as your sketch suggests, or is that artistic license, the mitre will not be at 45deg which might look a bit awkward as it comes out on the curved edge. Brian

Inside Corner for a Office Desk top (or kitchen worktop)

That's how I imagined it. Will you be building up from several boards?

Inside Corner for a Office Desk top (or kitchen worktop)

How are you making up the 2 legs of the L? If you jointing several boards together to get your required width, you could add extra material at the inside corner to enable the cutting of your curve. There are many ways of joining the mitre (I used biscuits) but if you have a domino machine, use...

    Workshop lighting advice

My 10 x 6m workshop was fitted with 8 x 5' fluorescents. These started to fail a couple of years ago and I've now replaced 4 with 600 x 600 LED panels of no particular brand. Huge improvement with reduced shadowing. I'll get round to doing the other 4 before long. Brian

Seal the whole surface that is subject to the vacuum suck. With luck the sealant will hold if it's well cured.

    Vaccum pump

A bigger capacity pump is not the answer. The tiny flow through your seal is insignificant compared with the free flow rating of the pump, be it large or small. A larger pump may well pull less vacuum than your present one. A higher quality pump may improve the suction but that could be an...
