I've done a lot of buying and selling over the past year and I've used Ebay, local auction house and here on the forum. My order of preference is, UKW, ebay, auction house. I'd recommend trying here first. Do your homework on ebay to establish a going rate. Don't wait too long for a possible...

Adding a remote switch to my dust extractor

I have the arrangement you are aiming for on my system. The difference is that I am switching via a DOL contactor rather than a NVR. My contactor latching coil is powerful enough to pull the contacts closed when energised. I suspect the NVR coil is only strong enough to hold the contacts once...

    Oak Veneer Advise

    1. 3.5mm? That is not very rigid. 2. With no previous experience I would recommend purchased iron-on veneer. It will come in pre-cut widths which will be easy to joint to get the 520mm. 3. Yes, oak can be difficult because it alternates hard and soft across the growth rings and the blade will...

Wood burning stove for the workshop?

Just come in from lighting up my stove. Agree with Jacob's notes on size and management. Going straight up through your flat roof may not be the easiest solution. Making a seal is not straightforward and if you've got wooden structure you have to provide a 75mm (?) clearance all round. Going...

    Decline in Valued Contributors???

I left in '66 and I can remember the school having a few mechanical calculators, not enough for the whole class. My slide rule was my method through to about 1972. I get it out now and again to show the grandkids how we did it 'in-the-old-days' Brian

    Improved hand tool myth.

Being a mechanical engineer I've never been particularly interested in the use of hand tools. Over the last 24 years I've produced some very interesting pieces some of which could have been made with hand tools alone, but not by me. Machinery has enabled me to produce things quickly, accurately...

    Glass suppliers BS EN14749

Presumably the standard calls for toughened glass. Any glass supplier should be able to cut glass to your requirements and get toughened. I've been through this process several times without any difficulty. Brian

SIP 01470 Dust Extractor, has anyone heard of this model?

I wouldn't worry about parts. There motor is the only thing that could be faulty and if it runs it'll be OK. It probably wasn't had much use. For £65 I'd take a punt. Brian
