Bending Ply or Kerf Bend? Any advice appreciated

Not sure what you're talking about here - curved worktop?? Do you mean a curved edging or lippng? What is the nature of the worktop? What 'look' are you trying to achieve? Brian

    Show us your Tobacco Tins!

Here's a few from my collection. They all came from my dad, he was a (ab)user of St Bruno in industrial quantities. I suspect many of the others came from his father:- Many of them are filled with steel slot head screws which I don't suppose I'll ever use. So what to do with them? Brian PS...

What are these living in my shed?

We had a mouse up in our loft so I got a plastic tub, put a nice little supper of currants, apple and meuslli in it. Arranged it in the loft at a slight angle with a wooden ramp up to the rim. Had a look next morning and there was a lovely little field mouse lying on its back, fast asleep. We...

    Dremel 4000 v dremel 4250

I went for a cordless and have appreciated the lack of a cable on many occasions. I've got an aftermarket 2nd battery which seems fine. Brian

    Bloody officialdom....

Had an invite to go to Amsterdam. Great. Oh dear, passports out of date. Get on to Gov website. Instructions on how to take photos with examples of good and unacceptable mug shots. Did that in a few minutes and uploaded them. Filled in all the questions in a few more minutes. Needed to send...

Help needed cutting segments for bowls

Yes I agree with you there. I raised the point because we use the word 'segment' (as in segment of an orange) incorrectly. The geometric definition of a segment is the outer portion of a sector, ie, the bit between the chord and the arc. Being pedantic I know but if you're searching for an...

    Gluing oak plank

I'm surprised a biscuit joint has failed. The biscuit normally swells from water in PVA glue and locks itself solid regardless of the glue curing. So that begs the questions, what type of glue and what type of biscuit? Cheap plywood biscuits don't expand as well as the proper beech ones. Brian

Help needed cutting segments for bowls

There's a problem here because a segment is being refered to. It should be SECTOR. Here is a sector calculator wwhich is what I believe @ps.harris80 is looking for

    Wonky Axminster saw

I think you're heading in the right direction. Take the whole shaft/pulley/blade/washer/nut assembly to your machinist and he will discover where the problem lies and correct it. Brian

    Routing query\advice

I would work on the basis of minimum setting changes to the router. So set it up for the first slot cut then do all 4 panels. Repeat until the 20mm wide slot is achieved. I would get to the 9.5mm depth in 2 stages. Cut the channel furthest from the face edge first, then if you fail to keep the...

Could be balsa. The balsa we use for modelling is sapwood. The appearance and description agree with that in Nick Gibbs 'The Wood Handbook' Brian

    Somerset Ash

Have a look at HJ Pugh's recent sale to get an idea of current prices for small lots. Remember that the seller will get 12% less than the hammer price and the buyer has to pay 12% more. Pugh's have these tools & timber sales frequently and you can look at past results Use the filter at the...

    Axminister dust collection current sensing

There is an easy way to achieve your goal. Each of your machines to be powered by a master/slave socket such that when switched on the slave will provide a signal that operates the blastgate. Presumably the raspberry pie will be able to flip flop the gate open or close. Now comes the clever...

    Dining table WIP

I'm a bit worried about the long term integrity of the joints. There doesn't appear to have been any jointing going on other than butt and these all involve end grain surfaces. It is going to end up as a very strong and stable structure so any movement is going to be taken out at the joints. The...
