    Making an "oil soak"

My first thought was kitty litter - heard it soaks up oil really well. I still wasn't sure when I read the first ingredient, urethane starts life as a white powder I believe.

Grain fill black palm next to maple.

I took a fresh look at it this morning, wondering if I should just accept the grain as another added contrast - smooth pale and coarse dark. I spent an hour or so sanding it, added a decent coat of shellac sanding sealer, sanded it again, and put on a first coat of FP. It's starting to take a...

    Sourcing Hardwood UK

I'm in Telford - AK Williams will order it in for you. Last purchase I made from him was about 8 months ago, admittedly at the height of the silly prices. A plank of maple (approx 11"x2.5"x8') and one of walnut (around 9"x2"x7) came in at about £160. 6 months before that the same order was...

Grain fill black palm next to maple.

When a finish goes on to the palm it darkens considerably, it's almost black. Some of the grain is extremely deep and - too my eyes - it looks glaring, especially when the light falls just right.

Grain fill black palm next to maple.

My latest project is a black palm and maple chessboard. The palm has a very open texture that needs filling before finishing (a soft french polish). I've tried some Rustins grain filler darkened with a touch of oil colour. My main concern was that it would stain the maple - this didn't seem to...

    Which bench top thicknesser?

I'm assuming the px12 is aimed at the diy'er/hobby end. In the US its going for around the £500 (converted) mark. Edit - Just watched the video that's linked. Knowing nothing about electrics, is the 17amp draw a consequence of the US electrical system?
