    Shooting board doesn’t work properly.

Its hard to tell from the photo, but it doesn't look like the edge the plane rides along actually has any type of rebate, it looks smooth.

    Shooting board doesn’t work properly.

I rarely sharpen past 1000 and never have any trouble. As for planes I'll grab whatever's on the shelf, 4,5 or 6. The only possible reasons I can think of you'll get a 'thunk' are either the blade is out too far, or the front of the plane is hitting the stop...... what else is there?

Ground flat stock - or The importance of double checking.

That's a brilliant link - bookmarked. Cheers Roy.

Ground flat stock - or The importance of double checking.

My intention wasn't to rubbish Cromwel - just to point out that you should always double check :)

Width tolerance is +0, -0.2, every surface ground.

    Bandsaw help needed!

When you've been setting up the blade, I've found (from experience) that if steel bearings touch the tips of the teeth (ie, you've let the blade get pushed back too far because the rear bearing wasn't set correctly, or in my case, tightened enough  ), you might as well throw it away...

Ground flat stock - or The importance of double checking.

Needing a piece of steel for a jig I ordered this - Indexa GFS Gauge Plate 15x5x500 The important bit of the specs was this Stupidly, I assumed it would be perfect - it's gauge plate, after all. So I cut it to length, drilled it, test fitted it, and it wasn't even close to fitting. So...

Large auction of timber and tools.

In the auction Jameshow put up, they are obviously auctioning off the entire contents of a small business - including "X5 Bag Wood Shavings" https://www.bpiauctions.com/auctions/#!/itemDetails/3727/372055

    16 Amp supply for bandsaw

Unfortunately, sheet goods are one of the things I cut least. I buy timber 'sawn', and also use a lot of reclaimed stuff that needs breaking down. My Fisher-Price 8" saw (ok, it's a Draper) is fine for smaller stuff, but trying to cut a 2.5" thick piece of maple isn't fun, or this 4' chunk of...

    16 Amp supply for bandsaw

Thanks Pete. My workshop runs off an extension lead - not the greatest solution, but I live in rented property and my workshop is about 40 feet away, on the other side of a communal car park. Upgrading the electrics isn't possible. Admittedly, in the winter with the fan heater, dust extractor...

Large auction of timber and tools.

    Nothing I really wanted :(

Large auction of timber and tools.

I had to stop myself looking at the timber - I practically have to take stuff out of my workshop before I can get into it as it is! Sorely tempted by the handplanes though, I saw a no8, no50, no78, and a Preston1344 amongst others - I was only looking for a tablesaw.

    Black palm and maple chessboard.

The palm was £60. The maple is from a big plank I bought locally 12 months ago - approx 13"x2.5"x7', iirc about £80'ish. The red wood was free - salvaged fire doors from a skip.

    Black palm and maple chessboard.

I didn't find it too bad - not something that likes a hand plane though, and I'm not sure how thin your laminate layers could be without losing their strength. I don't know how much open grain you'd find acceptable. Once it had been filled, sealed and polished it wasn't as bad as I originally...
