Post a photo of the last thing you made

Never, ever walk past a skip without looking ! - my latest find was old 1950's or 1960's firedoors - This pic is about 1/3rd of the rails, and some of the stiles (arrowed). I don't know what the wood is, but I probably couldn't afford to buy that quantity from a timber yard :) (They let me...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

(posted this in a thread where I asked for advice - I'm just going to copy it here and add finished pictures) Bit hesitant to post my strictly amateur, weekend wood working efforts here, but I am actually quite proud of how things turned out. I am NOT a carpenter (I teach CAD and CNC), and...

Pallet wood can be pretty sometimes

This is the most impressive use of pallets I've seen - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeRsgP7atpJKWL-RHrnaWjA/videos

Basics - How to tidy up table-top end grain?

Bit hesitant to post my strictly amateur, weekend wood working efforts here, but I am actually quite proud of how things turned out. I am NOT a carpenter (I teach CAD and CNC), and this is only my second project bigger than a trinket box or pencil case :) (sorry about the pic quality - old...

Basics - How to tidy up table-top end grain?

I got them done, and for my first attempt they came out looking - to me at least - the dogs danglies :) Glued and doweled in the middle, push fit and dry dowel in the ends, into elongated dowel holes in the table top. They were thinner than I'd have liked, only about 3" wide - it was all I had...

Basics - How to tidy up table-top end grain?

I'd guess that the top is at least 40 years old - would warping still be a problem? Brilliant - I've just researched breadboard ends, I knew there must be a way but I just couldn't think what it might be. Thank you :)

Basics - How to tidy up table-top end grain?

Hi, Basic question - how can you hide or tidy up the end grain of a table top? I have an old science desk top that I'm using for a new desk. I've cleaned it up, but the end-grain looks a bit shabby where they've joined the boards with some kind of floating tenon. I'd like to add a 1/2"...

    'Precision' Clamping squares.

I've tried throwing them away 3 times but they keep coming back. Luckily I can mill them square at work - but it's not something you should have to do.

    'Precision' Clamping squares.

About a year ago I impulse ordered a couple of clamping squares from Rutlands. They've sat on a shelf since they arrived, but I grabbed them recently to help with my latest project. Half way through glue up and things aren't coming together like I expect. Heres why. Clamp 1 Clamp 2 Not...

    Working with pallet wood

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJhxFfQ0DQ8 WoodWorkWeb - an interesting watch regarding the use of pallets. (tl:dr - not really worth the effort)

Request for help - Covid related

I'm really sorry I've only just seen this. If you do need any more in the future, I'm a CAD person, so if you let me know the exact dimensions (overall size and thickness) I could create a CAD model in what-ever format the 3d printer people want.

Do things have to be millilitre perfect?

My quick tip - use a knife for marking out, not a pencil. Best of luck :) Edit I found my carpentry improved noticeably when I learnt to slow down. When I watched the guys on Youtube they give the impression they can make a dining table and 6 chairs in a weekend, I kind of thought 'I should be...

    Another Wood ID

Light, fairly soft, pale pink to reddish orange and dusty unless tools are razor sharp - sums it up perfectly. Nailed it - thanks all. :)

    Another Wood ID

My guess was meranti - but thats only going off a google image search. It planes beautifully - almost like a softwood, and it's quite light (not dense). I wish I could give more info. I did get 2 very damaged table tops a while back that I turned into bookshelves. This wood - again unknown -...

    Another Wood ID

Thanks for taking a look. The only other useful pics I have are The small piece in the bottom photo has just been wiped with spirit to bring the grain out.

    Another Wood ID

Hi Folks, I recently found some old school science desks that were going into the skip. Someone had already had the tops, but I managed to get the frames. I believe the desks were made maybe late 60's, early 70's. Can anyone tell me what this wood is? Thank you :)

Inlay methods, router inlay kits any good?

Sorry to jump into this post with an unrelated matter, but I'm partway through making a similiar box to Custards design (the one with the green felt), and am yet to find a nice catch/lock. Does that mechanism have a special name? It looks ideal for my purposes. Thank you,

Axy AC216TS or Draper 82385 Table Saw.

Thanks guys, I phoned the people with the draper saws for advice during the week, spoke to a very nice guy called Jim, and he said the only one left was one they'd been using for display - so it was decide there and then, so I had it. As i said, I was a bit dubious about anything 'Draper', but...

Any idea what this timber is?

I've just been in touch with Sykes Timber in Atherstone - one of the many woods they stock is Honduras Pitch Pine :)

Notes on Sykes Timber@Atherstone- Can you PLEASE HELP?

I sent off an email to Sykes enquiring about very small quantities of nice timber for box making and miniature furniture, and received the following fantastic reply Hi Thank you for your enquiry. If you are in reasonable travelling distance from us, we do have an off-cuts shed where we have...
