Show me your thicknesser ‘anti-snipe’ tips

Show me your thicknesser ‘anti-snipe’ tips

I have the same machine, my experience was a sled made no difference, nor did lifting or angling boards, or anything else I tried. What did fix it for me was tightening the roller/cutter head down onto a long strip of wood just to the side of the cutting head. Very similar to this

Irwin XP Heavy Duty Bar Clamp - £12.50 (Back in stock)

They'll probably be out of stock for several weeks, if not months. Another member here posted them up a while back, when I visited the page they were out of stock - which is when I first asked to be notified.

Irwin XP Heavy Duty Bar Clamp - £12.50 (Back in stock)

A comment in the review section actually says " dont be put off by the picture which is incorrect ! these are the latest and strongest irwin clamps " I think a screw clamp will always provide more force than a ratchet, but 250kg of pressure for £12.50 - Whats not to like? :) @beech1948 I had...

Bosch PBD 40 drill on offer

@GarF Yeah, I think it's easy to get information overload these days, concentrating on every negative you see and you end up wanting £1000 performance for £10 price :D @William pang Try putting ' Rohm Supra-s 871050 1/2"-20 ' into google?

Bosch PBD 40 drill on offer

I think with the supplied chuck run-out is about 0.2mm - if it's for wood I'd personally live with it. If its for metal you can buy an upgraded chuck (Rohm Supra-s 871050 1/2"-20) for about £70 that reduces runout to about 0.07mm

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

Strangely, our college would jump at the chance of employing time served staff with minimal teaching quals. Our problem is, what skilled engineer is going to come and work where the starting salary is £23k, top whack would be £32, and there's been one, 1% pay rise in the last 11 years? (sorry...

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

Sadly it's the same in engineering. I work at a college where we teach turning, milling, welding, bench fitting and welding. I'm very far from being an expert in any of them, but most of the older lecturers simply amaze me with the amount of knowledge they have. Generally they've been on the...

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

Sorry if its a stupid question - how do you get the curved guide in the first place? Bandsaw and spokeshave/sandpaper?

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

I posted this earlier in the thread, then changed my mind. I know it's not for a table, but my bosch handheld router came with something like this. I've never used it, but from what i remember (and I bought the router over 20 years ago, so I might be wrong), it mounts to a slot in the...

    Help required (Stoke on Trent/Staffordshire)

I've always used this one from Stanley, found it very good for plane blades, chisels are a bit more difficult to set up though. While I was checking to see what an 'eclipse' jig was, google threw this at me "Modifying an inexpensive honing guide" (eclipse style) - might be worth a watch

    Help required (Stoke on Trent/Staffordshire)

I don't trust myself with my chisels on a grinder, so I'll always regrind mine with a jig. (I sharpen by hand, but eventually they hit that point where they need a nice new primary bevel). As Bod said, its easy enough - just get a fairly course stone, put the radio on and be prepared to put...

Triton Planer thicknesser TPT125 - Cam Locks ?

I've just been reading the online manual for my Triton planer/ thicknesser. I've found references to the "Rollercase lock cam" and the "Rollercase Lock" Where is the rollercase lock? I haven't got access to the machine at the moment, but I don't ever remember seeing anything like that. Does...

    Parting off tools

If it's cutting on the side, the tool isn't at 90 degrees to the job. :)

    Parting off tools

I would say :- Tool at centre height or a hair below centre. Perpendicular to the job (very important). Relief passes (as AES stated) when cutting larger stock. Make sure the tool has a top rake - most new knives don't have this, you'll need to grind one. A surprisingly high rpm (increasing as...
