    Attic workshop

When Rorschach said " Are the rafters suitably sized to take the weight?" I assumed he was talking about the amount of wife's clothing they'd be supporting :p

    DIY level Flat top blade

I bought a 200X30 4.0/2.5 Z=32 FLAT TOP just before Christmas - including vat and delivery it came to £69.60 This is Doug's blade compared to a £25 Freud - you can see what the extra money gets you :)

    Workbench

One tip I'd give - drill a big hole or two in each T-track that goes right the way through the top. I found mine filled up with sawdust without somewhere it could go :)

    The Lock-Picking Lawyer

'Skeleton key' was my generic term for his bit of magic - no idea what he used, I didn't see it, and I just picked a vague lock picking term out of the air so I didn't need to write a sentence explaining I had no idea what I was talking about

    The Lock-Picking Lawyer

My wife had a similar experience when she left her keys in the car (Ford), shut the boot and the doors locked automatically. The AA wanted her to sign a waiver for the damage as they wanted to fit an air bag between the door and frame and force the door open. After telling them to get lost...

    DW745 Table Surface not flat

Cant really imagine what you could do to that except give it a skim on a big mill. If it's a cast iron top I wonder if you could spend a good few hours with coarse emery and a big steel sanding block?

    Glue up orientation.

It's not pitch pine - I have some of that and it's heavier than most of the hardwoods I've got !

    Glue up orientation.

Thanks - I thought so but just wanted to check I wasn't asking for trouble :)

    Glue up orientation.

I have this post I've picked up from soomewhere - no idea what, but it looks fairly standard, except for the one face that looks really interesting. These 3 photos show the two faces. I shouldn't run into any problems if I want to glue it to another piece of wood like this, should I...

    Changing Times

You know you're getting old when people ask "What period is that from" when talking about things you grew up with !! :D :D Edit - Not long ago I was looking for some technical drawing pens (The Rotring/Marsmatic type) that I used to use in tech drawing class at school. I found some on ebay...

    Changing Times

True story A construction lecturer was talking to a new group of students, when asked if any of them knew what they were doing, one 17 year old kid said he had a distinction in bricklaying from school. "OK, everything you need is over in that corner, start building a wall, I'll be back in 10...

    Changing Times

(My turn to sound like my dad) I work in the engineering dept of a technical college, and we staff often say exactly the same. All the 'hands on' staff (those teaching milling, turning, welding, pneumatics, hydraulics etc etc) - and we're all, without exception, over 50 - grew up with...

    Impressive Tool Cabinet

I find this guy very watchable, especially the video where he cuts dovetails with a sharp screwdriver , a business card and a hacksaw haha. He does sell a range of - to me - very expensive tools, maybe he hopes you'll fill the cabinet with stuff from his shop :D
