    Digital callipers.

AVE has a good review of real v fake - including explanation of why batteries run down so quickly iirc (Probably ****! - Language in places is a bit choice ) We also use Mahr MarCal at work - but way overkill for timber work.

Bought a pallet of off cuts.

Before Christmas I bought one plank of American walnut and one plank of maple. Rough sawn, and ballpark of 2"x8"x7', cost £120 inc vat. Ordered the same last week - came to £185 !

Anyone experienced with extra large workshop builds in a UK garden?

Normally just after I've thrown away another 2 quid on the Euromillions.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I wanted something to fit on the shelf, to bring order to the actual pile of files, pliers, screwdrivers and assorted bits that were loosely dumped there. Made over a couple of weekends using timber I still had from the science desk stretchers I rescued from the skip 2 years ago. Even made the...

Any thoughts on selling your items via Ebay?

Thank you all for the thoughts on this. It was suggested by a co-worker (who makes and sells a lot of silver and slate items) to try Facebook marketplace, 'Amazon Handcrafted' and Folksy. There seems to be a lot more alternatives to Ebay than I originally suspected :)

Any thoughts on selling your items via Ebay?

I have a solid walnut/maple chessboard and a chopping board I'd like to try and sell. I'm tempted to try Ebay - I haven't sold anything on there for at least 10 years - but the amount of stories I've heard about people either saying they didn't receive the item, or damaging the item and then...

Sanding discs - Bosch hook and loop

At the risk of stating the obvious, it's just a bit more firm, a little less 'give' to the surface. I use mine mainly for leveling endgrain chess boards, I want the board to be as flat as possible - so I don't want a pad that follows the contours of what I'm sanding.

Sanding discs - Bosch hook and loop

I've got the same sander. The only time I have a problem with the discs sticking to the pad is if I'm swapping sanding discs without having the vacuum connected - there's so much sawdust I think it clogs the pad. Vacuum the pad and try a new disc, see if it sticks ok. I bought a replacement...

    French Polish Problem.

Well that was easy. I feel like I've made a bit of a mountain out of that particular mole hill. Not confident with getting a repair to blend in, I used white spirit and 4-0 wool to de-wax, flatted with 2000 emery, recoated with FP and it feels perfect. A (very) sharp eye might detect a...
