Am I really that out of touch?

They are a proper firm who sell good quality ironmongery, I've had stuff from them in the past, just surprised to see them selling stuff like this.

Am I really that out of touch?

Got an email from SDS London today advertising their new range of reclaimed scaffold board shelves, only £76.80 for a 600mm length. According to the blurb "It's more than just a storage solution, it's a statement piece." They also have some 8" metal shelf brackets which would go nicely with...

    No Fault Evictions

My tenants just moved out, they have been really good so I was gutted when I heard they were going. It was a Ukraine family, they were in for 18 months and left the house cleaner and the garden tidier then when they moved in. My only complaint is some knobs in the kitchen that were supposed to...

    Oak drawers off the shelf?

I need a couple of Oak drawer boxes for a larder type cupboard that I'm making for a customer, I was just going to order a couple from Hafele but they are out of stock of the size I want until August. I'm looking at ones from Probox as an alternative, the Probox sides are only 13mm thick and...

    Drill stand for corded drill.

When there was a few of us working in a busy joiners shop our assembly tables were basically a couple of trestles with a frame on top made from I think 6"x2" with a few 8'x4' sheets of damaged ply or chipboard etc thrown on top of that. If you wanted a 90 degree stop for something like making...

    Copper clad worktops?

To update this my customer has had quotes of £1500-£2000 to cover a cut to size plywood top about 1400mm x 615mm with copper, as I understand it that's me suppling the ply and cutting it to size for them to just cover. Customer thought it sounded a bit expensive so has ordered a piece of copper...

    Size For Glass Panels

6mm is a bit overkill, could you use 4mm with some kind of glazing tape to make up the difference?

Shelving out an Inbuilt Wardrobe - Help a Novice

This popped up on my Youtube last night, he's selling his square jig really but it does show building shelves can be easy with just basic tools.

Gorilla glue doesn't seem very good

I've never got around to trying PU glue in a cartridge (stuck in my ways) and your post has prompted me to get on and order some. I've ordered some of the Everbuild 30 min cartridges to try, anybody got recommendations for other brands I should look at?

Stud finders - do any of them work?

If it's just for wooden studs I generally just use a magnet to find the plasterboard screws/nails.

Shelving out an Inbuilt Wardrobe - Help a Novice

Good advice above from @HOJ, it can be a simple job, don't overcomplicate it.

Gorilla glue doesn't seem very good

About 3 weeks ago I used some mitre fix to stick the soles back on my sons school shoes, it's holding up okay and only needs to last one more week until summer holidays 🤞 He needs new shoes badly but as any parent knows you don't buy a new pair of school shoes 3 weeks before the summer holidays.

The easy... (hard?) way - see this.

Maybe someone techy can explain this but that works for me on my PC and Kindle at home but it doesn't work from my phone?

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

Smashed the bottle against the edge of the shelf......... Happened at the end of shift when stocking up, I suspect rushing to get out as quickly as possible. Regarding the saw in the photo I presumed that it's just a generic photo of a table saw and probably not the one involved in the accident.

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

I could have worded it better Mike, we weren't prosecuted but our insurance company agreed a pay out as we didn't have a written procedure in place on how to put a bottle on a shelf.

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

Jacob I totally agree on teaching safe practises and you know I encourage the use of push sticks as much as anyone but unfortunately people will still do stupid things or things can go wrong. As an employer you must do all you can to protect people so yes training and safe practise first with...

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

Unfortunately these days Saw Stop is probably the answer. They could have bought 10 of the Saw Stop equipped Festool saws for the cost of that one fine, the chap would still have his finger and no doubt more fingers would be saved in the future.

    Copper clad worktops?

The husband wants the rest of the tops in marble but the wife doesn't as she says it marks too easily. It's a proper traditional well used kitchen complete with big old Aga which often has cats, dogs and even sometimes one of the chickens (if it manages to slip in unnoticed) asleep in front of...

    Copper clad worktops?

I know copper isn't ideal for worktops but we are only talking about one small area, it's an awkward corner which is why they want to make a feature of it. They have put pipe work in to that corner potentially for an ice maker so I picture it will end up as a space for the lady of the house to...

    Copper clad worktops?

I'm making a kitchen for a customer and as a feature they want one of the worktops clad in copper. There are plenty of copper look laminates available or ready made copper clad ones which are mega bucks, I'm hoping to find a middle ground. It is an awkward shape in a corner (not square) about...
