Post a photo of the last thing you made

I haven't posted anything for a while so here are some shutters I finished off today, sorry the photos are awful! Folding shutters for two windows, the windows had splayed reveals and everything was out of plumb and level in every direction possible which made it a bit of a challenge...

why are reversible routers and bits not a thing?

Well I think it's a great idea, imagine doing curved template work and having 2 routers set up, one to run clockwise and one anti-clockwise and just swapping between them as the grain direction changed, it would be so much quicker (y)

    Great Service from Festool

I did have some msgs from the courier but some were from Festool for example these texts below to my phone and more detailed via email containing tracking details etc. "Your tool has arrived at our service center. Regards Festool Customer Service." "Your tool has left our service center and...

    Great Service from Festool

Totally agree, I think it was the communication and updates from them which prompted me to post about it. The other things were the website warned of delays with service which I didn't experience, also I got the router back before I had even paid for the fix which I found very trusting, guess...

    Infared heater in garage.

I ordered a cheap 2kw IR heater on a stand from Amazon yesterday. My workshop is 9m x 9m, very high and badly insulated so heating is a bit of a problem. It has a large wall mounted 9kw fan heater which I don't like running for long (£££) and a kind of stove that burns red diesel but that gets...

    Great Service from Festool

My 17 year old OF1400 router stopped working last Friday morning, I presumed it would be the auto shut off brushes as it did the same 9 years ago. I could have replaced them myself but thought I would send it off to Festool as I didn't need it for a few days and they would give it a full...

    Best way to cut this?

This thread has reminded me of a strange occurrence a couple of years ago. A chap turned up at my workshop who I think was Swedish, he had a couple of bits of wood in his hands of a species I didn't recognise and told me in broken English he needed to use a saw. Now I don't generally let people...

    Your Favourite Tape Measure(s)

After all the time I have spent banging on about my fantastic class 1 tape today I noticed printed on the blade "CE Applies to Metric scale only" and I spend a good amount of time working in imperial 😂 Similar to @baldkev I got a laser measure a while ago, mines a Bosch, would not be without...

Any Tips for hanging Double Doors?

It's really frustrating when you come to fit replacement doors and the frame isn't plumb as the previous joiner has made the frame fit a twisted door 🤬 😉 If you are fitting the linings yourself you can't go far wrong 👍 I've just hung 16 prefinished Oak doors on a new build, the builder fitted...

Any Tips for hanging Double Doors?

Hello and welcome Chipp. Afraid I can't think of any tips on hanging a pair of doors, it's just the same as hanging 2 single doors really, you are dictated by how straight, plumb and level the frame/lining is, you just do the best you can. Sorry not much help!

    Acurate graduated set square

I have 3 lovely wood and brass Marples squares, 6", 9" and 12", they look great mounted on the tool wall in ascending order but thing is they aren't square so absolutely useless, I now use a couple of engineering squares I got from Axminster which are spot on. I remember a year or so ago a few...

    Hinges in mdf

I know I said you shouldn't do it but I do occasionally fix things like hinges into the edge of MDF. I generally use MR MDF which is a bit more solid than the normal stuff. I find it best to use screws longer than you normally would and definitely a good sized full depth pilot hole needed for...

    Which screws for laying floorboards?

A few years ago I replaced and refitted some floorboards for a customer after the plumbers had made the usual mess. A few weeks later I went to do some more work on the property and the lady of the house told me how her husband thought I had missed some of the screws so he added a few more. He...

    Hinges in mdf

Basically it's okay to screw in to the face of MDF like you would a door lining but not in to the edge of MDF like you would for a butt hinge.

    Table Saw Tenon Jig

@Stuartgb100 You might have already seen this video on building Oak fl&b doors but if not it's worth a watch. He uses a not so safe jig to cut his tenons on his Wadkin.

Rental properties and new EPC rules

The agency I use for my rental said they used to manage over a thousand properties but now they only have 600 on their books because lots of landlords are selling up and getting out.

    How to make this cut

First choice would be cut rebate on spindle moulder, second choice would be cut rebate on an old planer thicknesser, most of the new planers are designed so you can't cut rebates on them (think you still can on new Sedgwicks though).
