    Modification of Two-Bag Extractor

I used to have a double bag extractor similar to your picture. Initially it never worked properly as nearly all the shavings went into one bag but hardly any into the other. After a bit of research I found there was a kind of fin in the Y section which needed bending slightly to even up the...

    Buying cheap tools

It does depend how much you are going to use something. I needed a hedge trimmer and petrol strimmer a few years ago, they wouldn't get much use so I just bought some cheap ones from Screwfix. They come out once a year and do what I need but if I was using them daily I would certainly want...

    Tutorial on making stormproof windows

Basically the sashes on stormproof have an extra little lip rebated over the front of the frame to keep the weather out hence the name. I feel these days stormproof are a bit old fashioned as casement style generally looks better, you can put an extra bit on the outside frame of a stormproof to...

    Tutorial on making stormproof windows

Places like the Whitehill website can be a good source of drawings and timber sections etc https://www.whitehill-tools.com/window-tooling/ Bradshaw Joinery did a good build series on a casement window, I know it's not storm proof but worth a watch if you have the time. The standard angle for...

Festool track saw with scoring blade

Obviously a specialist tool so not for everyone but if you cut lots of MFC it will probably be worth it's weight in gold. Yes the Makita has the scoring function or you can do the backwards cut thing etc but these mean making the cut twice where this should give you a perfect finish on both...

    Domino bench 2

@Spectric how do you hold your 700 when plunging, do you use the back handle? I find it's harder to control if holding the back handle and more likely to lift as you are plunging. I don't hold the handle but push from the very back of the tool so I'm pushing directly in line with the cut, I have...

Festool track saw with scoring blade

I know you all love your track saws so here's Festools latest version with a built in scoring blade, don't think I'll be buying one. https://werkzeugstore24.de/festool-vorritzer-tauchsaege-tsv-60-kebq-plus-fs-im-systainer-577743.html

Bad buying decisions or tool regrets

It's a long time since I bought a tool and regretted it, I have learnt to only buy the good stuff, I also have pretty much everything I need so am not tempted by special offers etc. I hate things that aren't well designed, if you use something a lot a minor niggle soon becomes a major niggle...

    Beaded face frames, question?

I "rabbeted" some of the doors together with a nice bead down the middle on my kitchen, I think it looks great but probably wouldn't bother again as it's a pain having to sometimes open 2 doors instead of just one.

What is the correct chisel to use for opening metal paint tins?

I find some of the acrylic paints and varnishes really make the lid stick, if they have been stood for a while you have to wreck the lid to get it off. Some even seem to cause the lid to rust which makes a real mess. I read a tip that you should put clingfilm over the top of the tin before you...

    Advice for planer thicknesser please

I have an MB and remember reading it was 380kg, this is over 2 and a half times the weight of an AW 106 PT so yeah, probably a no go.

    Another domino thread

Dominos are dead easy to make, I used to spend ages faffing about making them but these days I often just run some wood through the saw to size then take a 45 off each corner over the PT, they work fine in most situations. Rather than using the tight and middle setting it's often as easy to...

Air Nailers Or Electric nail guns?

Never used it but I get the impression that people aren't as happy with the 16g as they are with the 18g Ryobi, think maybe @petermillard had both and mentioned this? I have a 16g Paslode and the batteries have just both died, 2 official replacement batteries cost almost as much as the bare...

    Another domino thread

Made loads of face frames and like @Ollie78 says I just use a pencil line, it really is that quick and easy. One thing the 700 has over the 500 is more of the little flip stop things. I normally use the 700 for cabinet doors because of this. The dominos are thicker than needed but if the rails...

    Another domino thread

I do like my Domino. The only accessory I have for it is the trim stop, I've had that for about 15 years and still not used it

Makita Track Saw Blades - my brain hurts

I agree to some extent because with my saw when using a decent blade there is often no splintering on the none splinter guard side of the blade but it is handy to know your blade is going to cut exactly to the splinter guard so you can use it as a reference when lining up cuts.

Makita Track Saw Blades - my brain hurts

I'm no expert on Makita blades but so you don't damage your splinter strip you need a blade where the difference in thickness between the kerf and the plate is the same as the one you currently use if that makes any sense? It's sometimes hard to get your head around but because the left side of...

    Door Handle Refixing

Many handles these days are of the "bolt-through" variety, that's what the holes either side of the spindle in the latch are for. As long as you get some bolt through handles with a big enough rose you might get away without doing any hole filling.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

Well we just had a 3hr power cut, inconvenient but saved me some money 👍
