Using an impact Driver for Screwing?

Handy for some things but very overused by many people, definitely a builders favourite. Mine hardly ever comes out as I don't do much bigger stuff to warrant it, also the noise they make is just rude!

What router bits do I need for this job?

It isn't easy putting a groove in the frame with a router as you can't get right into the corners. There is a special tool for it but not cheap...

    Basic router questions

It's tradition on here that when people are talking about spending a lot of money on a router table someone has to point out the fact that you can get a spindle moulder for less. Might seem a bit daunting but cutters are cheaper, can do the work much faster and give a better finish. This chap...

Advice on removing timber window frame in one piece

Ah yes, the good old days when they were lugged in and had a groove right round the outside which got filled with mortar, haven't come across one of those for a while, they wouldn't come out in one piece!

    Cabinet door gap consistency

I would put the hinges on the door first and pack it in position. When screwing the top hinge to the frame pull the hinge leaf in the direction away from the door, almost like you are stretching the hinge just to take up any slack and screw it on. Do the opposite with the bottom hinge so pushing...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Finally fished off a new gate and fence for my mother (apart from the bolts through the hinges before anyone comments), started it in October and have been working on it between proper jobs so taken a while!

Advice on removing timber window frame in one piece

I'm sure last time I got some it was something like £50m2 + vat (minimum of 0.3m2 charge), that was ages ago and I seem to get informed of price increases almost every other month. I do normally get Planitherm toughened with warm edge spacers though.

Advice on removing timber window frame in one piece

Not bought any for a while but I think that's a tad optimistic.

Festool saw with 3rd party track

@fleyh looking at the cross section of the AMS rail I wasn't sure if it might take the Mafell connectors, obviously good if it would. I think one of the other plus points for the AMS if using a Mafell saw is that it's wider than the Mafell rail so better for using with dogs. One of the other...

Advice on removing timber window frame in one piece

It depends how easy the glass comes out, if it's well stuck in with silicone it might not come out very easily. There is always a chance that you might break the glass or even just the seals on the units but the price of 3 new units wouldn't be that bad. I have just used a hacksaw blade to cut...

Festool saw with 3rd party track

Probably no help to the OP but I found this rail interesting, supposedly works with Festool and Mafell saws and addresses the problems with both rail types so a kind of superior hybrid. Only downside is it's (I think) Russian so probably unavailable! https://ams-tools.ru/catalog/rail/ams-line/

Best tool to remove window frame return?

You could do as my diagram but cut the waste out with your multi tool instead of a router, it just helps having something to work to. I picture if you try to cut it all off it might not be very tidy, multi tools are hard to keep straight.

    Hello to all

Welcome Ray, I love the Wingback Armchair build (y)

Best tool to remove window frame return?

If you really want to trim it you could use a router? Would it be enough if you took off the flat section (guessing 12mm)? You want at least a 15mm high rebate for DG units so you could add a bead (probably 9 degrees) to the bevelled section at the back and then run round on top of this with a...

Best tool to remove window frame return?

By the return do you mean the rebate? You should be able to glaze straight into it or maybe add a small bead on top if you want a bigger rebate? I wouldn't be trying to cut it off, it will make a right mess. Edit to add at a guess the wood is probably Meranti but Sapele would be better for the...

    Basic router questions

A router table really can be as easy as just bolting your router under a piece of MDF and using clamps to hold the fence in place, that is how I've managed for years. Watch your fingers if cutting grooves on the table saw.......

    Economy 7 and storage heaters?

Thank you for all the replies, very helpful. Luckily I do have an electrician coming in a couple of days to look at some other stuff so will add this to his list and hopefully he will be able to tell me what's going on 🤞

    Economy 7 and storage heaters?

Sorry if this is a really dumb question but if you changed your electric from economy 7 to a single rate tariff would your storage heaters be on all day? We have a small commercial rental property (hairdressers) and the tenant has just been moaning about how high the electric bill is. They have...

Festool track saw with scoring blade

Probably not helium filled but Mafell already do the self feeding thing!
