    Splitting the line.

I generally mark things (with a sharp pencil) to leave the line on when I cut them. About the only exception is when cutting with the track saw I mark the line to be cut off, if it was marked to be left on it would be under the rail and you wouldn't be able to see it.

    Festool Plug-It connector confusion

I actually feel the same about Systainers, it would be nice if they did basic models of some tools giving you the option to buy them without a Systainer or plug it lead for say £30 less.

Where to put water bar in cill

Stepped back. Is there a groove in the jambs to stop water getting in, if so the bar should go somewhere behind this so any water that gets in can run down the groove and get out, not be trapped on the inside behind the bar if that makes sense. Round here the standard rebate you cut out of the...

Sash windows build advice on compliance..

The Whitehill Tooling website is worth a look as it shows different window profiles complete with measurements which is a good starting point. https://www.whitehill-tools.com/window-tooling/

    Wood advice for pedestal

Accoya? It paints well and will outlast most things. Downsides in your situation are it's not as tough as some hardwoods and the acids in it will rust that piece of steel, although you could probably seal the end of it with epoxy or something. If you don't like the idea of Accoya maybe Iroko?

    Replacing a DG unit.

Here is Hodgsons recommended system if using Flexistrip https://woodenwindows.com/media/resources/WW-hodgson-glazing-guide.pdf

    Replacing a DG unit.

My local glass supplier (who I don't use as they are useless) supplies people with the wrong type of silicone. I pointed out to them that it says on the tube something like "not suitable for use next to double glazing edge sealant", they told me that's a load of rubbish, it's all the same and...

    setting up a workshop costs

Sounds like my rent is about the same as @HOJ pays, it's quite a nice little unit I'm in but basic, a bit in the middle of nowhere which I actually quite like. I used to be much more prominent in the middle of our village and constantly had people calling in wanting a few screws or a metre of...

    setting up a workshop costs

My workshop is about 900 square foot, more space would be nice but I find it plenty big enough for a one person joinery business. I don't pay any business rates as I get small business rates relief, I think if the rateable value is below £12,000 you get the relief, at the moment anyway.......

A replacement internal door, the original had been badly chewed by a dog, was hoping to fill it and make good but found it was worse than we thought and had already had broken tenons etc bodged so got the go ahead to make a new one. I know it looks like just a normal 4 panel door but it's only...

Passing Cyclists in UK with a car Genuine help question

I live in a nice village in Yorkshire which has a nice little deli/sandwich shop so we get more than our fair share of cyclists coming through. My workshop is about 2 miles away and at least a couple of times a week I get stuck behind some cyclists, there is nowhere to overtake but plenty of...

Spindle Moulder Tooling for Sash Windows

Back in the day I used to make loads, the ovolo style were done like this, if it was a more intricate mould it would be a mitre instead of scribe. Mould and rebate done on the spindle moulder as separate operations, tenons cut on the tenoner. I had a tenoner with just square blocks, it would...

    Vertical bike storage?

Thank you all for the advice, some neat ideas there. It's actually something I'm doing for my ex, I went for a quick look today and think she is a tad optimistic with how much she will fit in her new shed 🤣 Going to have a play around in the next few days to see what works best (y)

    Vertical bike storage?

Looking at storing 3 bikes in a shed vertically and wondering what the best kind of brackets are? For 26" wheel mountain bikes but will be used by an 11 and 13 year old so handy if they can get the bikes on and off by themselves but not essential. I could make some of these Vertical Bike...

Folding shutters for 2 windows, of course they were not both the same size, nearly but not quite. Made of Tulipwood and MR MDF, a great combination for painting. I've had my Domino since they first came out and it still feels like it's cheating every time I use it . I never used to see the...

Help please - engineered flooring problem .

Might be worth checking to see if anything has been fastened down through the floor into the subfloor. You can have a nice floating floor then someone comes along and screws through the floating floor into the sub floor and suddenly your floating floor can't float any more.

    Why has my table cupped?

Most of the stuff I do is painted and MR MDF generally paints okay. If it's Oak or something I still use solid wood for the frames etc but veneered mdf for the panels. Shelves etc normally get a solid wood edging a few mm thick.

Squeaky stairs safe to put screws?

I think originally they were normally there just as a decorative feature but can be used to give a bit of extra support (y)

Squeaky stairs safe to put screws?

I renovated a staircase recently that had a few squeaks and movement between the treads and risers, the risers had dried out/shrunk over the years so they were no longer supporting the treads as they should. Rather than screwing down into the riser (which often just pulls the middle of the...
