    Sash windows advice

It all just looks scruffy and rushed. A bit of sanding, scraping, filling and repaint should sort them out, but you shouldn't have to be doing that on new work.......

Dado blade - UNI EN847 COMPLIANT and legal in the EU

According to the HSE a riving knife also acts as a back guard. I know if using a dado blade the riving knife isn't doing anything (and might only be sticking 5mm out above the table) but you might as well use it if you can.

Made me laugh , from another forum.

And a real life example on a pipe casing I did yesterday, can you see the join? 🤣 It will all be painted and the coving falls right on the joint so it's not a problem, just looks a bit rubbish at the moment........

    Roof insulation

Used just Actis Triso on my old school conversion in about 2007, it was banned for a while after that, think something to do with Kingspan and a Hotbox test. My place has nice roof trusses with wooden boarding on top which we didn't want to cover up so the insulation had to go above and anything...

Pull out storage under seat unit

Screwfix sell their gate hinges as singles which caught me out, and a lot of others going by the reviews. I bought some magnet catches last week that didn't come with any little metal plates to fasten to the doors, that annoyed me as I only opened the packets when I was on the job ready to fit...

Chalet door design - source or build.

I recently made a thick door by using a door blank clad on both sides with MDF, I used projection hinges so the screws went into the solid door edge rather than the edge of the MDF. Something like these...

    Kitchen floooring recommendations

I don't have any myself but I work in a few houses that have Karndean type flooring, seems to be good stuff.

    Quick question on panelling

I have done both ways, depends on the situation really. I like to fasten them to the wall in one piece like a picture frame when possible but sometimes if they are for example bigger panels it can be easier to do them as separate pieces.

    Letterbox/Letter plate aperture wrong?

I hate dealing with letter plates because many are like this. About all you can do is make the opening big enough for the flap to open but ignore the spring etc at the top, then make cut outs/rebates in just the front face of the door the minimum you can for the spring etc, the pin it all...

    Let’s play a game

I'm soon going to be selling some bits and pieces on here as I presumed it would be a better crowd to deal with than the other options. Some people can be rude, I might get an enquiry about a job, travel to look at it, spend an hour or more in the office working out a price, email it over to...

    Looking for guidance on angles

A wall can look straight until you put a piece of skirting against it, always best to get the skirting vertical if you can, often means chipping a bit of plaster off at the bottom of the wall. If the floor is out a kneeling board can be handy, basically a 2ft long off cut of skirting. You lay...

    Drill Driver Set?

I've used Makita batteries with an adapter in a Ryobi nailer for a couple of years now and no problems so far 🤞 I try not to let the battery get totally flat though.

    Digital Calipers

I got the Lidl digital caliper a few years ago, it has been good enough for my woodworking and the battery life doesn't seem to be a problem 👍 In contrast I got their digital angle finder at the same time and that was awful! The battery went flat in about a week but it didn't matter as the...

    Festool CXS 12

I have a T18 and it is a very quiet, smooth drill but the new CXS and TXS range use the more common noisier motors, the CXS 12 specs say it's 86dB which is ear defender territory!

    Workshop (Garage) Door Build

Make the bottom rail thinner so the boarding on the outside runs over the front of it right to the bottom of the door so there is no water trap.

Slab doors out of Veneer Ply for a silly person

I once made some budget wardrobe doors just using Oak veneered MDF, no edgings just a small round over, think the customer just varnished them, didn't actually look too bad.........

    Festool CXS 12

My old faithful Festool CXS 10.8 has died, I've had it years and used it daily so not complaining. I need to replace it and not sure if to get the same again while there are still some available or go for the new 12v model. Thing that's putting me off the new one is a lot of reviews comment on...

Colleague smashed top of my Festool CT Mini

Just resurrecting this thread to check how to change the hose garage on a Midi before I start fiddling with it, do the screws just go right through the motor unit from underneath? Left my Midi at a customers house over the weekend and apparently a step ladder fell on it when they were...
