    Dominio dowels

Making your own dominos makes an already great tool even better. I never used the wide setting on my DF 500 until that lightbulb moment that I could make dominos that fit the wide slot, it's the perfect width for things like cabinet doors when sometimes one standard domino isn't wide enough but...

Kitchen worktop - am I doing it right?

What you are doing is correct but the jigs I have used only have about 1mm clearance for the bush so the last pass with the router pushed left is only removing 1mm to clean up the cut not 10mm like on yours......something doesn't seem right :dunno:

    Marples No2200 square restoration questions

I gave up on woodworking squares years ago, I have 3 Marples, they look nice but none of them are square.... For me a square needs to be square no matter which edge you are working from, for example Marking out, inside stock to outside blade. Checking an edge is square or a cut is square...

    Which 18g Brad nailer?

I always think battery nailers seem expensive as you can buy a decent compressor and air nailer for the same price as what you pay for just a bare battery tool, obviously the battery option is much handier if you want to use it out of the workshop though. I'm on Makita platform but was too...

    paint finish

If you just spray a bit of water on redwood it will raise the grain, or it generally happens with the first coat of acrylic primer you put on anyway.

    Hardwood waste for pricing joinery

You are probably best giving your timber supplier a cutting list and asking them how much will this cost. Accoya is great as it comes in standard sizes but Sapele is normally random widths which makes wastage more of a guess.

    paint finish

If it's the texture of the grain you can see it's probably because the cabinets are made out of something with a deep coarse grain like Ash.

    Plunge router guide rail adaptor

If when making the cut the router is between you and the straightedge work from left to right, this should help the router push itself towards the straightedge. If you go right to left the router will be trying to push away from the straightedge. If the straightedge is between you and the...

    Simonswerk hinge quality?

Just to update this the hinges are going back, the customer service from the firm who supplied them was rubbish, first time I'd used them and will be the last. I ended up ordering some Alexander & Wilks hinges from More Handles which arrived today, the quality seems good, even the supplied...

Fitting butt hinges to a box and how to reduce the gap

You could cut them in on a slight angle/taper? Leave the outside edge of the leaf flush with the timber but cut them slightly deeper at the knuckle side, this will close the gap a bit and might look better than the whole hinge sunk down?

    Festool domino: benefits + price

Bought my DF 500 new in 2006, think it cost about £500, it's crazy to think 18 years later I could probably sell it for the same as I paid for it.

    Cheaper v more expensive tools

Might sound a dumb question but have to ask.....is the blade the right way round with the teeth pointing down? If a bandsaw blades gets turned inside out the teeth will be upside down, often catches people out, apologies if I'm insulting your intelligence 🤔

    Phillips / Posidriv Screwdrivers

I keep a Wera ratcheting Kompact 27RA in my tool bag, really like it. I have had it years and used it loads, despite sometimes hitting it with a hammer to clean the paint out of slotted screw heads it still works perfectly. I have a set of fixed blade Wiha in the workshop, as @Sideways says...

    Latest Wall Panelling job

I made all the mouldings including the cornice on my spindle moulder.

    Probably a stupid question.

The thin rip jig kind of becomes the fence and you move the fence towards the jig after each cut. The theory is that it's always tricky dealing with thin strips between the blade and fence but using one of these the thin strip you want is actually at the side where the off cut would normally be...

    Latest Wall Panelling job

All the beads went in after so no scribes. A lot of it is MRMDF but anything like the pipe casings or the bench that had edges on show that might get damaged are solid wood.

    Festool domino: benefits + price

I keep a 1mm plastic packer with my domino, if I want the domino centred on 18mm I set the height stop to 16mm hold the packer on top of the height stop and drop the domino down onto that, simple and repeatable.

    Multitool advice

I have a corded Fein and cordless Makita. The Fein is the better tool, much smoother, less vibration etc.........but the cordless Makita is so much handier that I haven't used the Fein for at least 2 years.

    Show us your Infill Mallets

I acquired this a few months, ashamed to say I didn't really know what it was until I googled it and asked on here. I was going to attempt replacing the faces but am told the infill goes right through and the handle through that so not straightforward. Does make me smile every time I use it :)
