    Two QUICK Shop TIPS:

Know what you mean about the large glue bottles with a screw top, really difficult to squeeze it out, I bought a couple of the small hobby size glue bottles which are so much easier to use, then refill from the big ones. It’s Evostick that I use.

    Folding sawhorse idea

Well I’ve read it a couple of times but still not really sure of your idea. Suggest a quick sketch, doesn’t have to be brill. Ian

Does a live centre need to spin?

Forgot to mention that I rest a candle on the hot metal every now and then to give it some lube, not sure if it helped tbh.

Does a live centre need to spin?

Not a big lathe user, but I have always just had a solid bit in the tailstock, yes it does get very hot but seems to do the job just fine. Fyi it has a very sharp centre point with a sharp ring 12mm dia? around it.

    Which hard varnish?

Well yes I would have recommended those too but didn’t on purpose , are we sure it won’t just peel off the Melamine? I don’t think that it is designed to have a finish applied. Wax maybe? Ian

That’s a good idea for the pva bottle, will try it, as long as I remember to screw the top down at all!!

    Found in the shed

Yes they were a casting that had nails as part of the casting, can’t say we ever put them on the soles though, heels only for us boys, and once we had them in position we just jumped up and down on our our heels. I thought it was our slang that we called them Segs, but there it is on the packet.

    Which hard varnish?

If I have it right, this is melamine on top of chipboard, do you already have the edges and ends edge banded?

    Bathroom cabinet...

Just doing something similar, Mahogany sideboard type thing, people are giving them away here. I’m giving the top 3 coats of Yacht Varnish prior to fastening the basin down, it’s a new one so fixings come with it. Sort of a Neoprene gasket, I wonder if double sided glazing neoprene type strip...

    Awkward Space Storage Solutions?

Bit late to this, it can be useful when organising storage to bring things together as trades/jobs, so that you have a box for plastering another for plumbing etc. Ian

    Spoonerisms....

Not heard any new ones, travelling by the town drain is the only one that stuck in my mind.

    Me, Myself and I

Hi and welcome, I’m sure you will have lots of experience to share here. The picture, I’m guessing it’s not you. Company logo? Ian

    Pivoting pocket doors

Sorry can’t really help with what you are puzzling over, but how about a tambour roller shutter? There looks to be room above for one and I’m fairly sure I’ve seen one in a magazine once for this type of situation. I only once got involved with a pocket door and I really cannot recommend doing...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

And back then with all the soot particles all over everything something like a white suit was a ridiculous idea. Vaguely remember the film though. About the same period when the film Flubber came out, captivated me! Ian

    A bit Mad?!

They are a pain over here, all you can hear some days is the big sit on mowers and the revving up and down incessantly of the blowers, plus occasionally it’s trees being fed into a shredder. Each Monday there is the blast and vibration from the quarry 2 miles away which is almost pleasant in...

Cost difference between S4S and rough hardwoods

Just went back and read your list of future work, that’s an ambitious list. I would suggest that you will need a spindle moulder as well as a saw of some description plus extraction. Sorry! Maybe look at a combination machine, something like a Minimax 26c which includes a SMoulder rip and cross...

    Center Wheel Plough Plane

Perfick, and I suspect all that lovely brass adds to the weight giving it a better action too. Ian

    Center Wheel Plough Plane

Looks to be beautifully made, how does it work? Sorry I mean does it work well?

    The new hammer

Now I’m not saying that you’re the one of course! Also I might be telling you how to suck eggs - sorry, but a lot of people have a problem with hammers because the face isn’t polished on a bit of sandpaper and this causes the hammer to skid off, the problem with most hammers is that they are...

    HELP-for Home workshop- workbenches

Sorry David went the way of all things, probably 20 years before you were born lol. The finish problem is really easy to solve, two very quick coats of water based poly varnish, almost indestructible in use, and it is certainly one of the quickest ways to finish anything looks good too. Ian
