    (Partially!) Hidden hinge box

Looks perfectly good enough to me, don’t think I would have considered using cats paw Oak for a small box but that really works well! I like that you put one just where the lift scallop is placed too. Ian

Did you just see that …

Reminds me of the fantastical futuristic engineering on Thunderbirds, wonderful.

Did you just see that …

Yes, one h ell (is this site for children?) of an achievement. Chopsticks doesn’t give justice to the huge arms capable of catching and holding a 230 ft long 600’000lb behemoth, and just being able to bring such a thing back into the exact position using thrusters for it to be grabbed is really...

    The London international woodworking Festival

Now that looks like something I would love to see/attend ( unfortunately I’m 3000 miles away) quite an august bunch, I am absolutely sure woodworking by hand is becoming much more popular. Ian

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Yes looks to be nicely made, I’m surprised you didn’t do some nice lap dovetails on the drawer front though, you are obviously well capable and the (not sure what it’s called) joint you did isn’t the strongest for a drawer. Ian

    Hello from Farnham

Hi and you’re very welcome, shop furniture as in shop fittings, counters etc?

    New House, New Workshop Build.

That’s a really superb workspace deema, a brill result for all the planning and hard work that you put into it. Are you going to treat us to some pics with the equipment installed?

    Sedgwick or Wadkin planer Thicknesser

I know it’s not what you were asking about but I can recommend an SCM Minimax 12” often come with a Tersa block which makes for easy blade changing and a really good finish. Ian

    Workbench Build

Seems to be a thing to have a statement piece of flashy stuff for the leg and that certainly fits the bill! I think the scollops out are fine, you certainly don’t want anything that would be rough or jagged.

    Budget board stuff

Kingspan is wonderfully stiff, if it were me I think I would wrap a timber frame around bits of it and make up some bifold doors? You could inset wheels in the bottom.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

That’s very nicely done, particularly like the cut out bit for the handle which also stops it racking I suppose. Is it Cherry? Ian

Thoughts on new general joinery job

Sounds like a good move James, might be worth casually looking to see if any hoses are leaking or dropped off but you might not make friends being over zealous as a new guy. Ian

You can’t leave it there Tony, would we have heard of you in your Pro life?

Distribution of Cadmium in the 1950s

No, as I said, “a politician” and if I wasn’t clear I definitely mean every single one of the freeloading wastes of space.

    Ebony inlay substitutes.

I would think, though I haven’t done exactly this, that a 3mm square inlay pulled slowly through boiling water then gently placed inside a bucket or similar to dry would be much easier to inlay into your tables, Ian Ps, if you decide to stain another wood probably best do it after the boiling...

Distribution of Cadmium in the 1950s

Sorry that it might have affected your Dad. Just shows how far you can trust a politician, what a disgraceful thing to do, and when they knew it was going to be dangerous release the stuff in Africa! I was going to say it was different times, but I wouldn’t put anything past the beggars.

    I'm Nobody

That’s a shame, it would be nice to be able to support your local businesses. In the US and doing a little job, 2x2 needed, 8’ lengths $13, 12’ lengths $8 you couldn’t make it up! Was it the cost of cutting it into shorter lengths?

Go to finish for workshop jigs and stuff

Can’t say I’ve ever bothered myself, most of them are single use only. One coat is not as good as two, but still, yes water based poly varnish is a doddle, brush it on for ease of doing and it might be dry enough by the time you’ve finished the first coat for the second. A bit of wax on parts...

    Creaking laminate?

Not recommending it (particularly in this case) but I’ve heard that talcum powder can stop stairs squeaking, seems unlikely but a friend swore it worked. That one bit rubbing against the door frame is fairly easy to check, but I suspect some of the laminate isn’t supported- ie a low part of the...

    The things you find out....

Unbelievable and incredible, but that’s how it is now I suppose. Really enjoy a good book, so engrossing. Black shoe polish is great on ebonised wood btw.
